New Releases this week | July 1st – July 7th 2013

This week's new releases are severely lacking especially for the 2 main consoles, but Limbo comes to iOS on Wednesday so that kind of makes up for the big release short comings. The popular indie game is accompanied by some minor, small releases but hey, it's July.

Resistance Burning Skies Review

The Vita, when it was announced, was a machine for FPS games on the go. Although every game benefited from that second stick for camera control, being able to play a shooter without severely hampering the experience was a major plus. The first shooter to be released for the console, Resistance: Burning Skies, came out months after the Vita's launch. That was only mistake number one.

PS+ Content For July (And August?)

Sony have announced the content that will be available to PlayStation Plus subscribers in July. It's a great mix of some top games, things that are definitely going to help you prepare for a few big upcoming titles. Although you'll need to enjoy shooters to really get the most out of this month, the inclusion of Battlefield 3, Payday: The Heist and Saints Row the Third is sure to be enough to justify this month's pay. That's an awful lot for an awful little.

Coconut Dodge Revitalized Review

The original Coconut Dodge, released as a PlayStation Mini in 2010, is one of only a small handful of games that I've rewarded with a 10/10. At a time before FuturLab became the Sony darlings they so deservedly are today, they were just another developer vying for attention on the Minis platform and in Coconut Dodge they made a game that was not only so much better than almost anything else on the platform, but that was so much better than it needed to be. They'd gone above and beyond, taking a simple idea and creating perfection.

PS Vita Getting Fieldrunners 2 this summer

The sequel to the wildly successful tower defence game, Fieldrunners, is now confirmed to be in the “final stages of development” as stated by a post on the PlayStation blog. This new addition to the series includes over 25 ingeniously designed towers… and I hear that guns can transform enemies into cows now… Well, that should satiate any beef cravings one might have. The game’s engine has also been completely redesigned to allow for a completely new feature; precision attacks. This allows every single enemy to carve a unique path throughout the ...

Rayman Legends Coming to Vita

At first it was a Wii U exclusive, a game that was supposed to shift consoles, but then Rayman Legends was delayed for the best part of a year so that it could become a multi-platform game. Although the Wii U version of the game had gone gold (and copies of it are sitting around in warehouses), they won't be available for purchase until the end of year. Legends is now also coming to PlayStation Vita, Ubisoft have announced, and you'll be glad to know there won't be another 9 month delay in adding another platform.

Velocity Ultra Review

Velocity was constantly named one of the best PlayStation Minis and ended up ranked as one of the best games available on PSP. It amazed critics and placed FuturLab firmly as a company to watch, a was the game that seems to have cemented their relationship with Sony and gotten them work on both PlayStation Mobile and now PlayStation Vita. A little more than twelve months after the release of the original, FuturLab have remade Velocity as a full blown Vita game, complete with a platinum trophy, upgraded visuals and leaderboards. Is that enough to make the ...

Penguin Party Review

Penguin Party is a new PlayStation Mobile title available on PlayStation certified devices and Vita, and although a lot of core gamers will dismiss it based on its design and content, the child-friendly visuals and anthropomorphic penguins hide what's actually quite a challenging puzzle game, and a title in the same vein as old favourites like Chu Chu Rocket.

Playstation Plus – June content (EU)

As usual the Playstation Plus content for June adds 5 free games to the Instant Game Collection. 3 for PS3 and 2 for PS Vita. Complaints about the lack of RPG games in the IGC seems to have gotten through to the people that matter and this month 2 RPGs are given for free to subscribers of the excellent service. Even though this is the June update much of the additions will get added on May 29th.

FuturLab/Velocity Ultra – James Marsden Interview

FuturLab is a developer that, within only a handful of games, have gained a following for their dedication to creating fun, simple titles that are enjoyable, addictive and great value for money. From Coconut Dodge, through Velocity and onto the several titles they created for PlayStation Mobile, FuturLab are behind some of the very best titles available on PSP and Vita. This week sees the release of a Vita-specific version of Velocity, Velocity Ultra, that includes improved visuals, trophies and…
