Fort Triumph Review (Xbox Series)

Fort Triumph is a challenging fantasy turn-based tactics game where permanent death is a possibility at any moment. How’s that for pressure? Lead a band of heroes with different skill sets through a witty, parody fantasy plot. Missions with various objectives are waiting for you on tiled procedural maps—whether in story mode or skirmish, prepare yourself for a grand adventure. ● Utilize your surroundings: Every tree or boulder is a potential weapon in battle. ● Strategize: Choose between four factions…

Outriders Review

Outriders is a very interesting experiment and take on multiplayer gaming, while not a game as a service it would be interesting to see if they offer anything beyond the campaign down the line because there is nothing there to drive me to get better loot or return to the game outside of creating a new character of a different class. But it is a very FUN game to play with friends if nothing else really grabs you about it. Plus it was an excellent addition to Gamepass, which is definitely helping the player count I think a lot. I definitely think this is a ...

Microsoft Flight Simulator Review

It’s incredible to think that a mere week ago I’d have been deadly in the pilot’s seat of a plane. Now, thanks to Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Series X, I’d be merely very dangerous. Yes, thanks to this masterclass in design, I’ve actually learnt a thing or two. I’m only half-joking. Okay, so very few people who play this game are going to end up capable of taking to the skies. But, man, it does a good job of…

Observer: System Redux Review (PS5)

Observer is a psychological horror video game played from a first-person perspective. The player controls Daniel Lazarski, a Krakowian detective of the Observers police unit. He can hack people’s brain implants with a device known as the Dream Eater, for interrogation purposes. Equipped with augmented vision split into Electromagnetic Vision—which scans for electronic devices—and Bio Vision—which scans for biological evidence —he can analyze and highlight certain objects in his environment. Objects can be interacted with and examined, while dialogue ...

F1 2021 Review (Xbox Series)

Starting from pole position in the opening race of the season, I’ve got high hopes for the ensuing 29 laps around Bahrain’s circuit. Five red lights and away we go!    I get wheelspin off the line and am instantly surrounded by Mercedes; sandwiched through a turn, I clip my nose on Lewis Hamilton’s tire, damaging the front end and sending the defending champion down the field. Max Verstappen takes the opportunity to jump into the lead. Instead of pitting…

A Plague Tale: Innocence – Next-Gen Review

An historic Last of Us with rats instead of zombies. There ya go – everything you need to know about A Plague Tale: Innocence. Asobo have almost cracked the Naughty Dog code straight out of the gate with their first game in this style, and that’s incredible. ‘Almost’ is carrying a lot of weight in that sentence though. Intention doesn’t usually mean an awful lot in reviews – something is successful or it’s not – but here I think it’s…

Curved Space Review (Xbox Series)

Curved space is a new take on the familiar twin stick shoot-em up, with a kicking soundtrack and unique gameplay style, but is it enough? Curved Space is an intense arcade-style twin-stick shooter that takes the classic formula and plunges it into the weirdest reaches of space. Battle cosmic space-invading spiders across curved landscapes where bullets hug the terrain while the horizon drops sharply out of sight. Inspired by arcade classics, players will have to hunt for weapon power-ups and…

Mass Effect 1 Legendary Edition Review

The Mass Effect series is one of my favorites in gaming of any era, based almost solely on 2 and 3. I generally consider Mass Effect 2 to be my favorite game ever; I love the characters, the combat, the setting, and the story.   My history with the first game is a little bit more hit-and-miss: I bought a 360 so I could play Mass Effect. But the infuriating Mako sections, long load times, and uneven combat slowed my…
