PlayStation Vita, PS3 Price Drops Announced

PlayStation Vita - Price Drop

There’s never been a better time to get into the PlayStation “ecosystem,” a word used several times in tonight’s Sony GamesCom conference. It was at that conference that both the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 3 received price drops.

The PlayStation Vita has been officially reduced to €199, $199 (or around £170). That’s a pretty sizeable discount from the RRP, and you can expect retailers to drop it even lower than that as well. It’s a fantastic device, especially if you like indie games and the remote play feature of the PlayStation 4. Memory cards will also receive a discount.

The 12GB PS3 will also receive a price drop. You’ll be able to pick it up for €199, or $199 when it’s released in the US. Why anybody would want a 12GB PlayStation 3 (a console that probably couldn’t even fully install Metal Gear Solid 4) is beyond me, but a PS3 with an RRP below €200 is good news to everybody.

Although there’s no official word as to when these price drops will take effect, it’s fair to presume that they’ll be imminent. If you were planning to buy either device, hold off for the next few days and see if you might just be able to net yourself a bargain. If you’re picking up a Vita, buy Gravity Rush while you’re at it!
