3DS Game Reviews

9.0 Yo-Kai Watch 3

Although the Yo-Kai Watch franchise is gaining some traction in the West - more so in Europe and less so in the United States and Canada - there are still many gamers and anime fans out there who know little, if anything, about the franchise itself. To them, the name Jibanyan and Whisper mean nothing, and if you mention the town of Springdale, most people are likely to ask, "Do you mean Springfield, like in the ...

9.0 Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s I...

In my preview for Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser's Jr's Journey I mentioned that I had never played Bowser's Inside Story before. So when it came time to do my review, I decided to not compare the game to the original. In fact, I decided to not compare the game to previous Mario & Luigi games at all. Basically I wanted to ask: Is Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey a good game(s)?

8.0 WarioWare Gold

I’ve been playing video games for a few decades now, and I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never played a WarioWare game in my life. When the game launched a few weeks ago, I began watching video of our good friend Abdallah Smash, and instantly thought, “That looks like a lot of fun.” Well, now I have played it; what did I think? Let’s dive in!

9.5 Dragon Lapis

I’ve been enjoying Dragon Lapis for the 3DS a lot. Check out my preview of the game here. And now its time for my review of Dragon Lapis. Is this a 3DS rpg that you’ll want to download? I like how Dragon Lapis starts with a cutscene that gives us background into its world. As the game continues, we get a lot more world building and interesting plot twists. All of the characters in this game are ...

8.0 Detective Pikachu

Even if you are not a long time fan of the Pokémon franchise, there is one thing you probably do know: Pokémon don’t talk to humans and humans don’t talk to Pokémon. Sure, based on emotions of a Pokémon - or even their actions - a good trainer can determine what a Pokémon is thinking or feeling; but to actually talk to one? That is basically unheard of. So when we learned about the popular Japanese Detective ...

7.0 Machine Knight

There are not too many developers releasing 3DS eshop games at anymore. Most of the developers have switched over to the Switch. One of the developers that it is still putting out games for the 3DS is KEMCO. Their newest game for the system is called Machine Knight. It is a jrpg. What do I think of it? Read on to find out! Machine Knight has an interesting story, although I do wish it had a little less ...

6.5 Squareboy Vs. Bullies: Arena Edit...

I reviewed Squareboy Vs. Bullies: Arena Edition on the Nintendo Switch. I thought the game was good but not a great game. Last week, Squareboy was brought to the Nintendo 3DS. Is the game better on the 3DS, not as good, or should you avoid the game altogether on this system? Squareboy Vs. Bullies is not a horrible beat ’em up, but if you have a Nintendo Switch and a 3DS, you should buy this game on the ...

9.0 Pokémon Ultra Sun & Pokémo...

The typical Pokémon generation of video games has been highlighted by two initial releases, followed by one ‘complete’ release. You had Pokémon Red and Blue, and then Pokémon Yellow. You had Gold and Siler, and then Crystal. You had Diamond and Pearl, and then Platinum, and so on. Until the release of Black and White, followed up by Black 2 and White 2, Game Freak has stuck to this generational system. Not until ...

7.5 Mario Party: The Top 100

Mario Party titles have been on the downswing in recent years, with things beginning to fall off the rails around Mario Party 6 or 7. While the final three installments of the franchise have still been great fun - and we reviewed them all fairly well - there was still something missing that the previous titles all had. Once thing, though, that Nintendo has never stalled out on, within the Mario Party franchise, ...

9.0 Worcle Worlds

I played a demo of Worcle Worlds awhile back. I thought it was very good then and couldn’t wait until it came out. And now here it is! Is Worcle Worlds for 3DS as good as its demo? Lets find out! Worcle Worlds for 3DS is a very addictive puzzle game. Lightwood Games has always done a great job with word puzzle games, but I think this may be their best game yet. In Worcle Worlds, you must create words…

9.0 Mario & Luigi: Superstar Sag...

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowsers Minions released today on the Nintendo 3DS; as the title is essentially broken into two components - Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Bowsers Minions - we though we would review each separately. Today, we are looking at the recreation of the Gameboy Advanced classic RPG title. Is grabbing it on the 3DS solely to replay this classic adventure worth it, regardless of the ...

9.0 Metroid: Samus Returns

If you haven’t, please check out my Metroid: Samus Returns reviews-in-progress part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4. Today, I want to provide you with my full final review of Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS. Will Metroid fans love this game? If you’ve never played a Metroid game before, would this game be easy to get into? I’ll answer those questions while also, of course, letting you know if ...

9.5 Steamworld Dig 2

Image & Form are one of the best Indie developers that create games for Nintendo Systems. So when they announced Steamworld Dig 2 for Nintendo Switch, I had no doubt that the game would be good. I just had to wonder how good it would be? Would the game be better than Steamworld Dig? Would it be better than Steamworld Heist? Better than both?

8.0 Monster Hunter Stories

When I first saw Monster Hunter Stories in the Nintendo eShop, it was right around the day the demo landed, and everybody kept saying online, "It's Pokémon, but Monster Hunter." I was intrigued immediately, but that excitement was quickly quashed when I realized that Monster Hunter Stories is almost nothing like Pokémon at all. Then I played the demo, and a new wave of excitement passed through me. Monster ...

10 Chicken Wiggle

You may say to yourself: do I need a game called Chicken Wiggle in my life? And you may say to yourself: self, what is a Chicken Wiggle? I will attempt to answer both those questions in my review of Chicken Wiggle for the 3DS eshop.

9.5 Miitopia

Miitopia is not Tomodachi Life. That said, there are some things they have in common and of course I will be mentioning Tomodachi Life some in this review. Don't worry though, you don't have to play Tomoadachi Life to understand Miitopia (or vice versa).

7.0 Kid Tripp

I've played some good games in the runner genre and some bad ones too. Runners can be fun, despite the lack of control in movement, and there can be a lot of challenge and surprise to them. Kid Tripp is runner for the 3DS. Is it a good one, a bad one, or a just ok one?

8.0 Hey! Pikmin

The Pikmin franchise has been one of Nintendo's best since the original title released many years ago on the Nintendo Gamecube. Since then, Nintendo has been careful to not over extend the franchise, but only releasing new titles every few years. Until 2017, Pikmin has lived and died on the home entertainment console, never finding its way to the Nintendo 3DS family of system. With the release of Hey! Pikmin, ...

8.5 Ever Oasis

Ever Oasis is one of those titles that no amount of video, and no amount of dialogue with others will convince you to purchase and play it. This review, perhaps, might be one of those things that unfortunately is completely useless, unless you walk away going, "man, I need to play this game." But, I'm not sure I will be able to properly convey that to you, because Ever Oasis is a game that needs to be played, ...

9.0 Runbow Pocket

The ways of Runbow Pocket for 3DS are heartless and unforgiving. You will die a lot in this game. And the game will make fun of you. Every. Single. Time. So why should you play such a heartless game? Why should you care about a game that is so cruel? Well...maybe because its fun too? Let's find out!

7.0 RPG Maker FES

Have you ever wanted to create your own RPG adventure? RPG Maker FES from NIS America gives you the tools to create an RPG of your own. I've been playing RPG Maker for awhile now and I'm ready to give my opinon on the game. Will you want to create an RPG with RPG Maker FES?

8.0 Farming Simulator 18

Farming Simulator games have never been that strong on handhelds, and when I heard that Farming Simulator 18 was coming to the 3DS and PS Vita, I wasn't the least big excited. If your read our review of Farming Simulator 17, you'll know that we absolutely loved that game, stating that it combined all the elements of past Farming Simulator games that were well received, and left behind the problematic issues. ...

9.5 Fire Emblem Echoes-Shadows of Val...

Fire Emblem Echoes-Shadows of Valentia is the latest game in the Fire Emblem franchise. Last week I provided our readers with an in-depth look at the game with my review in progress. Please check out Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4. Today I want to give you my final review of the game. Is Fire Emblem Echoes-Shadows of Valentia a good game? Shadows of Valentia is huge game. It took me over 50 hours to ...

9.5 Dragon Sinker

Just because something is "retro inspired" doesn't always make it good. I've played some good retro inspired games and some pretty bad ones too. For me, a retro inspired game should be like an old game but doesn't have to completely ignore modern conveniences like "save anywhere" and multiple modes of difficulty.

7.0 Mario Sports Superstars

When Nintendo launched the Mario Sports Remix on the Wii a number of years ago, I was super skeptical and assumed a mash-up of sports in a single game - ala the Winter and Sumer Olympic Game titles - would be a fairly short experience, with little replayability outside of parties with friends and family.

7.5 Legna Tactica

Final Fantasy Tactics. Disaega. Fire Emblem. Legna Tactica. Wait. What was that last one? Legna Tactica is a brand new strategy rpg for the 3DS eshop. Much like the other games named, you’ll be moving your characters across squares in various levels. Legna Tactica shares a lot in common with the games I mentioned, but is it a good game or just a cheap rip-off of other strategy rpgs? Legna Tactica has way ...

8.5 Lifespeed

When I bought my New 3DS, I knew there wasn’t many exclusive games for it. Still, I really wanted one of the systems because the SNES Virtual Console and also how the system improved on the internet browser. Its always great to see the occasional New 3DS exclusive game though! When I heard about Lifespeed coming to the New 3DS, I knew I wanted to review it. A fast racing game in the style of F-Zero for New ...

9.5 Poochy and Yoshi’s Woolly W...

When Yoshi's Woolly World launched on the Wii U last year it was met with high praise, and for good reason. Graphically, it was a masterpiece; the graphics were supported by outstanding sound and the great platforming elements we've come to expect from a quality Yoshi's title. With the release on 3DS, Nintendo has brought the Woolly world to a whole new audience.

9.0 Dragon Quest 8

Bringing all of these older Dragon Quest games to the Nintendo 3DS is a brilliant idea, and I'm loving every minute of it. Although Dragon Quest 8 doesn't boast the obvious improvements we saw in Dragon Quest 7

9.0 Shift DX

In Shift DX for the 3DS, you manipulate an environment to solve each level. Turn the level upside down, grab a key to move things that are blocking your way or seek out the light bulb to make other things disappear.
