Last generation was far too long, and while it allowed for the development of impressive platform-pushers like The Last of Us, it also led to reduced sales and even studio closures. Thankfully, it seems Sony will be swapping things out a little more this time around, with the PlayStation 4 lifecycle reduced over its predecessor.

Sony have revealed the apps that'll be available on the PlayStation 4 when it launches later this week. Those hoping to completely replace their PlayStation 3 will be happy to know that all the major ones are there day one, and that there will be a lot more available to download between now and Spring 2014.

We've seen this headline time and time again before, but it's never come to anything. If you live in the UK, the US, or some other "major" gaming country, it can be a little hard to believe that there are some places that are yet to get some of the things we take for granted. Take PlayStation Mobile, for instance, which Sony have today announced will be making its way to several new countries in mid-December.

If you weren't overly keen on the performances in Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2, Square Enix are offering up the Japanese voice-work for Lightning Returns. That's pretty cool. Less cool? It's free for a fortnight after launch and then will only be available as paid DLC.
