Titanfall Announced for Xbox One

Titanfall 2

Respawn Entertainment, a company made up of much of the team that left Infinity Ward after the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, officially unveiled the long-awaited Titanfall this evening and the Microsoft 2013 E3 conference. It was much as any fan of Call of Duty might expect – silky smooth multiplayer action with a few clever ideas to really capture the player, keeping them coming back time and time again. There were also mechs. A lot of mechs.

Titanfall looks very Halo-esque – the perfect opportunity for longtime Halo fans without a current Microsoft device to play a similar game on PC, perhaps – and will use cloud computing to really push the experience. Little was said about what the game would actually entail, with the original footage seemingly implying a third person action game. The “player” character was chased down by a mech, who scooped him up and placed him into the control seat. This was indispersed with clips of jetpacks, hops from building to building and invisibility.

Then we were treated to some real gameplay footage, taken from the games multiplayer mode. It seems this time Respawn have tried to build something that feels as epic as any single player game, while adding in the replayability and team warfare of mulitplayer. As you run around, members of your support team scream at you from the top corner of the screen, feeding you important information. You’ll be able to summon and drive those mechs, although they won’t make you invincible. One part of the Titanfall footage showed the player needing to eject from his burning mech, only to land on another mech, pull off a security panel and shoot into the mech’s wiring.

Titanfall will be released in Spring 2014, and is bound to be a must-play to anybody interested in Call of Duty.
