July 23rd is the Biggest Day in Xbox History

There really isn’t a point to sugar coating it. Prior to the introduction of Xbox Game Pass – a brilliant business decision that puts fans first – Microsoft was floundering with the Xbox One family in the console space. Big franchises seemed to die on the platform, most notably Fable, and the console just never picked up steam to compete with the PlayStation 4. And all of these critiques comes from a guy who played the majority of games this generation on the Xbox One X.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Xbox One X, and enjoyed playing all multiplatform titles on that system. Form Assassin’s Creed to NHL 20, I played hte majority of third party titles within the Xbox ecosystem. And I really loved it. What I didn’t love so much was the lackluster releases on the console, of the first party variety. Forza, as always, was fantastic. Gears, as always, was really good. But after that, much of what was released on the Xbox One X this generation was a bit of a letdown. Was Crackdown 3 good? Of course, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Was it epic? Not really. And the same can be said for most first party titles. Good yes, even great at times. But rarely epic.

That’s all likely to change on July 23rd, the biggest day in Xbox history if you ask me. This month, Microsoft will debut many of the first party titles coming to the Xbox Series X, and I’m expecting huge things from the company. Throw in rumors of returning franchises because of twitter name placeholders – I’d die for a new Fable! – and it would be hard to argue with this being Xbox’s biggest day.

I’ve always loved Xbox. It’s what I gamed on the majority of my life, outside of Nintendo. I’ve owned every system, multiple of the 360 and Xbox Ones. It’s where my family plays. It’s where a lot of my friends play. And, frankly, it’s likely where I will play next generation as well, at least for all those mutliplatform games. But what I really want is for Microsoft to hit it out of hte park with first party exclusives. And I’m pretty damn sure they will.

July 23rd cannot come soon enough!
