With the holiday season upon us, each year we aim to provide quick and easy information on some of our favourite games for those who are looking to purchase a gift for a friend or family member but are not necessarily a big gamer themselves. To that end, we have collected our list of favourite games of 2019 and are sharing them with you here! All of these games have been reviewed by us, and none of the links below are affiliated. We are simply looking to help you find the best games that will be sure to please the gamer on your list! Let’s take a look!

Dragon Quest 11 S–Nintendo Switch

blank

Dragon Quest 11 was great on the Playstation 4. If you only have that system, then you should get the game there. However if you have a Playstation 4 and a Nintendo Switch, you should get Dragon Quest 11 S on the Switch. It is the ultimate version of DQ11. Two graphical styles, three types of music, tons of new content, and everything from the PS4. This is a can’t miss title for rpg fans! Check out our full review here.

You can purchase Dragon Quest 11 S digitally through the Nintendo Game Store or get a physical copy on Amazon.

Kingdom Hearts 3–Playstation 4

blank

Its been years since Kingdom Hearts has had a full console sequel. Has the wait been worth it? In my opinion, the wait has been more than worth it. Kingdom Hearts 3 takes the franchise to the next level: improving on graphics and gameplay. And if you are a Disney fan, this is a game you shouldn’t miss. Yes the regular story is weird. Ignore it and enjoy the wonderful Disney worlds. Here is our full review.

You can purchase Kingdom Hearts 3 digitally through the PlayStation Store or get a physical copy on Amazon.

Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening—Nintendo Switch

blank

When Nintendo revealed this Link’s Awakening remake, my jaw was on the floor. The graphics looked so different from anything Zelda we’d seen before. Link’s Awakening looked like a claymation cartoon! The gameplay looked similar to the Gameboy classic but more refined. The Link’s Awakening remake turned out to live up to its hype: the graphics are wonderful and the gameplay is a lot of fun. Here is our review!

You can purchase Link’s Awakening digitally through the Nintendo Game Shop or get a physical copy on Amazon.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 – Nintendo Switch

blank

One of the best games currently available on Nintendo Switch is Luigi’s Mansion 3, published and developed by Nintendo. The game has some of the best animations we’ve ever seen in a video game. It’s not often that Luigi gets to step into the light, out of Mario’s shadow, but when he does, Nintendo makes sure he shines! Creep your way through over a dozen uniquely themed floors in this haunted hotel, in an effort to save Peach, Toad, and Mario! Read our full review here.

You can purchase Link’s Awakening digitally through the Nintendo Game Shop or get a physical copy on Amazon.

Terraria – Nintendo Switch

blank

The explosion of the survival crafting genre has created some instant hits across all platforms, but few have been as interesting and deep as Terraria. While the initial difficulty curve is pretty steep – as the game doesn’t even attempt to hold your hand – once you master the various game elements, it is one of the best 2D, survival crafting games on the system!

You can purchase Link’s Awakening digitally through the Nintendo Game Shop or get a physical copy on Amazon.

Control – Xbox One

blank

If you played and loved Alan Wake back on the Xbox 360, you are probably really going to like Control. This narrative driven experience is one of the best stories in 2019, and that is coupled with fantastic gameplay that is consistently good across the entire experience. Infiltrate the government agency, learn new skills, and track down those you love. Don’t expect it all to make sense early on, however. It’s one of the most confusing, yet rewarding, games to come to home consoles this year! Read our full review here.

You can purchase Link’s Awakening digitally through the Microsoft Store or get a physical copy on Amazon.

A Plague Tale: Innocence – Xbox One

blank

Sporting one of the best-told stories of any video game ever made, A Plague Tale: Innocence weaves a tale of historical fiction with stunning graphics and satisfying stealth/puzzle gameplay that is saturated with emotion. This game will keep you fully entranced from start to finish – a great choice for bingeing during holiday down-time! Read our full review here.

You can purchase Link’s Awakening digitally through the Microsoft Store or get a physical copy on Amazon.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses – Nintendo Switch

blank

Both fans of tactical combat and social sims will find plenty of content to enjoy in the latest installment of the Fire Emblem franchise. Finding harmony between the earlier, combat-driven games and the more recent, socially-driven decision-based gameplay, Three Houses is a crowd-pleasing game, with something in it for just about every type of gamer. Read our review here.
