Fans of Resident Evil were given a glimpse of what comes next in the franchise when a new trailer for Resident Evil Village dropped at Capcom’s Showcase in April.

Resident Evil is one of the most popular video game franchises in the world. It’s so prominent, that the TV adaptions, which includes titles like Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and Resident Evil: Retribution, have become the highest-grossing film series based on a video game ever.

Aside from the video games and the TV presence, the franchise lives in the arcade and tabletop world as there is a Resident Evil VII: Pinball Machine and even a board game titled Resident Evil 2: The Board Game. It has also impacted the iGaming industry, where players can find a slot game named Resident Evil 6 that can be found at brands on the PA online casino list, such as Unibet Casino.

The trailer shows off the games beautiful 4k graphics, making it an even more terrifying experience than its predecessors. It begins with a shot of a huge temple in the middle of a snow-covered mountainous area with the mystical and haunting sounds of an older woman chanting a ritual. The camera pans out to show the Umbrella Corporation logo in the middle of a table, indicating the evil corporation and its insane bio-weapons are still a massive part of the story.

It is an essential part of the trailer because it goes on to show elements that have not been seen in a Resident Evil game before, such as enemies that resemble vampires and werewolves, so it is vital to let the audience know that Umbrella is still at the heart of everything that is going wrong.

Even though some elements that have never been seen in a Resident Evil game before, such as enemies that resemble vampires and werewolves, were shown off in the trailer and during Resident Evil Showcase. Along with the tall and elegant vampire Lady Dimitrescus, two other new evil characters are also revealed in the trailer, a bearded figure in sunglasses that turns out to be Dimitrescus’ brother and an enormous gluttonous man that no other details have been revealed about yet.

The final big reveal of the trailer is right at the end when a static image of the former hero, turned villain, Chris Redfield, where half his face looks human and the other half distinctly werewolf, indicating some virus has contaminated him. Whether or not he is a playable character or just another enemy in Resident Evil Village has not yet been addressed.

However, the biggest news of all was the announcement that an all-new 60-minute early demo, in all of its 4K glory, would be available for players to try on all platforms from 1 May 2021. The game’s official launch is on 7 May, so the demo is effectively a try-before-you-buy, which is quite rare in the gaming industry these days, so Capcom must be confident they are on to a winner with Resident Evil Village.

Fans of the Mercenaries mode first seen in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis will be delighted to find out that the mode will return in Resident Evil Village, as confirmed by the game’s director Morimasa Sato at the Capcom Showcase. The mode essentially presents the player with a list of objectives to complete within a certain period, which adds a lot of replayability to the game and adds somewhat of a multiplayer mode as the fastest times can be shared and broadcast.

It will be sure to provide players with excellent practice for Resident Evil RE: Verse. This four to six player survival horror game will also be made available to everyone who purchases village.
