Metagal Review

I like Mega Man but I’m not a die hard fan of the franchise. If there wasn’t another Mega Man game made tomorrow, I’d be ok. I thought it was cool that Capcom did another Mega Man game, though I felt no need to rush out and buy it. So when Metagal, an obvious Mega Man clone, was offered to me as a review game, I was interested but not too excited. And now that I’ve played the game, what do I think of it? Here is my review of Metagal for the Nintendo Switch!

Metagal is a Mega Man clone or if you want to, you can call it a Mega Man homage. Its obvious from the first time that you play the game that its developers love Mega Man and wanted to create a game that was similar to it. Its also obvious how much the developers wanted this to be a good game. And they totally succeeded in creating a Mega Man like game that is fun to play, while providing a challenge too.

The levels in Metagal are so detailed and so well put together. This game absolutely feels like a Capcom Mega Man game. There are some differences, Metalgal is a little bit more forgiving than Mega Man. There are checkpoints in this game! I say only a little bit because Metagal is still a very challenging game.

Metalgal’s controls are simple and easy to learn, especially if you’ve played Mega Man. And the game looks really good in handheld mode and on the TV. I liked playing it in handheld mode the most though.

If you like Mega Man at all, then you’ll be interested in Metagal. If you’re a diehard Mega Man fan, why are you still reading this review?! Go get Metagal! This game will be a great addition to your Mega Man collection.

I think the only real negative things that I can say about the game is that the story is awful and Metagal really doesn’t have its own personality. This game is a Mega Man clone. It doesn’t try to be anything else. Yes, you have checkpoints and gears that make the game a little more forgiving than Mega Man. The menus are different from Mega Man also. Other than that, this seems like a game Capcom could have created.

I think I just paid the developers their highest complaintment of this review. Metagal feels like a classic Capcom Mega Man game. Does that sound good to you?

Metagal gets an 8.5 out of 10. Its a great Mega Man game.

Thanks to Ratalaika Games for providing a digital code for this review. Metagal is now available on the Nintendo Switch eshop!
