Ring Fit Adventure Coming to Nintendo Switch

Ring Fit Adventure 1

Earlier this week, Nintendo teased an upcoming fitness game by releasing a trailer of individuals using two new Nintendo Switch accessories, a fitness wring that reacts to your pushes, pulls, and movements, and a Joy-Con leg strap that we all assumed measured lower body movement. Today, Nintendo released a longer, 7 minute video showcasing their newest products: the Ring Fit Adventure game, the Ring-Con, and the Leg Strap.

Joy-Con controllers will nicely fit into the Ring-Con and the Leg Strap, and once you’ve loaded Ring Fit Adventure into your Nintendo Switch, you will be good to go. Nintendo has released a number of fitness games in the past, but most have relied on basic gaming mechanics to try and hook you in. Wii Fit is fun, but the games are minimal and very one-dimensional. Their latest boxing title was also great, but again limited in scope. This time, Nintendo is trying something entirely new: an adventure game.

Based on the brief video footage, Nintendo has created an entire adventure game for you to enjoy. The game will run on rails – at least so it seems – where you will run-in-place to make your character move, and use the Ring-Con to perform various actions such as leaning, flying, paddling, and of course, fighting!

In fights, players will choose from a variety of ‘exercises’ in order to deal damage to an enemy. These can range from squats to pulling on the rings – with a wide variety of exercises to enjoy, working out might actually be fun! Enemy colours will determine which exercises you’ll want to do in order to inflict maximum damage, and everything is color coded to make it easier:

Red – arm exercises

Yellow – core muscle exercises

Blue – leg exercises

Green – Yoga exercises

As in any adventure game, beating levels and enemies will earn you experience points that in turn will increase the level of your character. Leveling up increases you base health and defense stats, and new Fit Skills will be available for you to choose from.

You can also play Ring Fit Adventure outside of the adventure mode, where you can play minigames to set high scores for others to attempt to beat. This does make sense as at some point, we would assume the adventure would be complete – Nintendo has done a good job of extending this experience past the main game, so that Ring Fit Adventure can become part of your everyday routine.

The game will be available on October 18th of this year! Will you be picking it up?
