Making the decision to start your own business isn’t an easy one to make. There are a lot of considerations to make and you have to decide whether the sacrifice of your time and sanity will be worth it.

It’s a leap of faith to own your own business, but if it’s an idea that excites you, then you might be ready to push away from your comfort zone and start out by yourself. It takes a lot of work, a lot of patience and a lot of time, but if you put the energy into it, you’re going to create something truly amazing.

If you are interested in pushing yourself out of your usual comfort zone this year, it might now be the right time to get your business going. Are you ready to set up your company? You won’t know unless you check all of the best reasons to go ahead and do it. Yes, it’s a lot of work and yes, it comes with risk, but all the best things do! Let’s take a look at all of the reasons you should stop hesitating this year and go for it.

  1. You’ll feel motivated. There is nothing more motivating than knowing that the money you make is all for your business and the expenses that come with it. When you are working for someone else it’s often harder to motivate yourself to do well. You know that you are working yourself to the bone but none of it is for your own benefit and that can be a rather harsh reality! As your own boss, you get to find motivation every day. You follow your dreams and you are the person in control of your own success here. This alone is enough to want to do well in your business.
  2. You get the chance to follow your own passion. Are you a lover of writing? The best baker you know? Are you a dab hand with a screwdriver and a PC? No matter what you enjoy doing, make sure that you put the effort into creating a business that makes sense with it. If you follow something you enjoy, you’ll have a much better time of it and it’s vital that you enjoy the work that you’re doing. Instead of failing as an entrepreneur, you’re going to thrive because you chose something that gives you joy.
  3. You can support the charities you want to support. When you work for someone else, you only get to support charities that they decide to support. If there are charities and social justice issues that you want to highlight and pursue you get to do that when you are running your own business. You can be a part of the community and choose that justice you want, so if you want to buy a food truck with your business money and use it to go and feed the local homeless, you can. If you want to go out and do more for the world, you get the choice to do that.
  4. You will gain personal financial independence. One of the biggest business benefits is that you can gain some proper independence so that you can pursue what you want to pursue. Getting that company of yours off the ground takes time and may result in leaner times while you get going. It takes a lot of patience but when you start seeing the money flowing through the business, the sense of security you gain is huge.
  5. You’re In control of your schedule. Any start up business goes through a time of difficulty when they’re getting started. You work all of the hours that you can because you are going to be setting things up and getting the wheels in the right place so that they will begin to turn. After a time, you will be able to slow down on the number of hours you work and you’ll be able to start putting the money to good use in hiring staff. This will allow you to have better control of your schedule, which is the whole point of not working for someone else!

  1. You are able to make the rules. You won’t be restricted by the office culture to which you’re so accustomed. All of those policies that you have worked with for so long? You can scrap them. If you want your staff working in an uniform-less, casual environment with flexible working and a free Friday lunch, you can have that. When you make the rules, you get to be the kind of employer that you wish you had, and that can be invaluable to the people working for you. You want them to see you as the right person to work for, and it’s much easier when you are the one making all the rules that will make sense for your business.
  2. The tax benefits. No one, not one person, likes to pay taxes. As a business, your taxes will be higher because you are bringing in more than an individual would. However, you will find that there are many tax benefits for businesses out there that you can get involved with, saving you money and time and enabling you to support your own entrepreneurship.
  3. You gain security. Job security, financial security – it’s all important if you want to be a success. The stress of trying to climb up the corporate ladder often leads to depression and burnout, so get off the ladder and create your own platform. You want to invest in your future and you get to have that job security that you need now that you are the business owner. You will have the money to set up your own financial future, too, giving you security and allowing you to have the future that you want.
  4. You will gain a range of skills. A big part of running a business is that you learn to do a lot by yourself. You will wear a lot of hats until you start hiring more people to work with you in your business. You’ll pick up new skills as you go along, but you’ll also get to know every single aspect of how your business works and what makes the industry tick. This experience is just invaluable and you won’t be able to stop learning once you get a taste for it.
  5. You get the chance to be creative. When you are going into business by yourself, you get the chance to be truly creative with it. What products do you sell and which services do you offer? Totally up to you. You have a say in what goes out of your business, what it looks like, what the signage says and how you approach customers. You get the chance to be creative with all of it. Any concept that you have that others could need, you get to put it out there into the world. You are the one who is allowed to be innovative and creative and it all starts with just one idea.

Starting your own business may be a big challenge, but that doesn’t make it an impossible task. You can engage, teach, learn and do more for your potential customers all because you came up with a new product that others can benefit from. This is the year to start a business that means something to you. It’s now that you should become something in a new industry and earn the future you want to have.
