Scooby-Doo Playmobil Sets

I love generic themed toy playsets as much as the next person, and Playmobil does a number of great themes. Lincoln, my 4 year old, really loves all the Country sets, inclusive of the farms, tractors, mobile homes, and more. But every once in a while, it’s nice to take a licenced theme toy for a spin.

Over the past week or so, Lincoln and I have been taking a deep dive into the world of Scooby-Doo Playmobil, and he is having a blast.

I think the craziest thing that has happened is a sudden love for Scooby. Prior to getting these Playmobil sets in for review, Lincoln probably couldn’t have picked Scooby-Doo out of a dog lineup – he has had no interactions with the franchise in any way, but now he cannot get enough.

The Scooby-Doo playsets from Playmobil are phenomenal, with great detail throughout and even sets themed after previous media published by the company behind the movies and shows.

It’s the sheer number of Scooby-Doo Playmobil sets that blows my mind, and we only sampled a few of them, most notably the Mystery Machine.

While I was a bit disappointed that the Mystery Machine didn’t include all the characters in the Scooby gang – just Fred, Velma, and Daphne – it’s not hard to complete the gang by picking up one of the smaller side sets that include Scooby and Shaggy. We fortunately looked at both the Mystery Machine and two smaller sets that both included Scooby and Shaggy, so we had the complete gang.

When Lochlan, my 9 year old, saw what we were doing, he headed over to play immediately. Lochlan does have a history with the books, movies, and TV shows, and was instantly recreating some of the memories he had, including the famous, “I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids!”

Watching my kids interact with the toys and using all the play elements was a real treat, and as I stepped away to just watch the proceedings, I quickly remember how fantastic of a toy Playmobil really is.

These sets include so many bits and bobs that can keep kids entertained for hours. With a few baddies to catch, battery powered machines inside the Mystery Machine van, and tons of food items, clothing items, and more, you quickly realize that the value here often matches the price being asked.

I often look at Playmobil boxes and think, “Wow, that seems expensive for how many pieces are included.” But it is worth reminding you – and I often need to remind myself – that Playmobil price per piece numbers are not going to match building block price per piece numbers. While my kids enjoy toys from other manufacturers, I can say with certainty that the Playmobil items make it out of the toy cupboard much more often than anything else.

I think Playmobil has really cornered the market on creating fun, play things. My kids were never invested in dolls, and don’t have a real infatuation for action figures either. But something about Playmobil peaks their interests, and gets them engaged like I’ve never seen before. And all the sets from the Scooby-Doo line are huge hits. They likely will be for your kids as well, regardless of their knowledge of the source material.
