Google Unveils the Pixel Watch 2

Google has been delivering high-end technology around AI for a while now and been putting it into people’s hands with their Pixel lineup. With the original Pixel Watch, they began expanding the capabilities of their software with a brand new hardware line. This year, improvements are coming to that new hardware line, with the Pixel Watch 2.

The first Pixel watch laid the foundation for what Google wanted to do with their watches. Integrated with both FitBit and Google, it was a fantastic 24 hour battery watch that fans enjoyed. It was a great compliment to the Google Pixel phone line. By almost all accounts, Google is promising that the Google Pixel 2 has been improved – better battery life, unique Google experiences, better accuracy than the original, and more.

Between Google’s impressive technology and FitBits industry leading health software, this is billed as the  next state of the art Smart Watch.

The design remains much the same, but will feel better on the wrist. It will use recycled products for production, and updated buttons will provide smoother navigation. There are also a number of new bands, including brand new sports bands and metal link bands. The original bands will still work, Google has promised. With a wide range of watch bands available, there are tons of choices to really push the consumer’s personality.

There is a brand new chipset in the watch as well, which will create a smoother watch experience. There is 24 hours of battery life promised for the device, including the always on feature. It will take a mere 75 minutes to provide a full day’s worth of charge.

Wear OS4 will be running on the watch, providing the best of Google services on your phone, including Google Calendar, Gmail, and more. You can even ask Google to update you on how you slept, and more.

Safety is another key feature of the Google Watch lineup, including emergency information and medical IDs that can be listed on the watch so First Responders can have that information in emergencies. The watch will also feature Safety Check, currently available on Pixel phones, that will allow you to set timers for when you should be checking in, and if you don’t, can notify friends and family.

The heart rate sensor has been upgraded which will create more accurate heart rate readings. This will produce 40% more accurate heart rate readings when doing vigorous exercise where you are doing a lot of movement.

The Pixel Watch 2 includes 6 months of FitBit premium.  Preorders start October 4th, and are available on shelves October 12.

1 Colors may vary and change over time with use. Not all colors are available in all countries.

2 Recycled aluminum is at least 3% of product based on weight.

3 Requires 4G LTE wireless service plan (sold separately) to use cellular functionality. Compatible cellular service and roaming may not be available on all carrier networks or in all areas. Google Pixel Watch 2 and Android companion devices must use the same carrier network. Contact carrier for details about current restrictions, network performance, compatibility, and availability. Watch connects to compatible 4G LTE networks but 4G LTE service, speed and performance depend on many factors including, but not limited to, carrier network capabilities, device configuration and capabilities, network traffic, location, signal strength and signal obstruction. Actual results may vary.

4 Google Pixel Watch 2 is not compatible with Android (Go edition). See g.co/pixelwatch/specs for technical and device specifications details.

5 Maximum battery life is approximate and is based on testing conducted in California in mid 2023 on pre-production hardware and software, using default settings with a median Pixel user battery usage profile across a mix of talk, data, standby, and use of other features. Battery life depends on features enabled, usage, environment and many other factors. Use of certain features will decrease battery life. Actual battery life may be lower.

6 Fast wired charging rate (up to 2.5 watts) is based upon use of the USB-C® Fast Charging Cable plugged into a wall outlet with 30W adapter. Actual results may be slower. Charging speed depends upon many factors, including battery age and ambient temperature. Adapters sold separately.

7 Storage specifications refer to capacity before formatting. Actual formatted capacity will be less.

8 Not available in all countries. Blood oxygen measurements, when enabled, are intended for general fitness and wellness purposes and are not intended to diagnose or treat any medical condition or for any other medical use, including self-diagnosis or consultation with a doctor. Please consult your doctor before beginning or modifying any exercise regimen or making health-related decisions.

9 The ECG app is only available in select countries. Not intended for use by people under 22 years old. See fitbit.com/ecg for additional

details.

10 Like all heart rate tracking technologies, accuracy is affected by physiology, location of device, and your movements and activity.

11 Not available in all countries. Significant changes in ambient temperature may negatively impact skin temperature tracking.

12 Google Pixel Watch 2 is designed to comply with a water protection rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 and a rating of 5 ATM under ISO standard 22810:2010 when manufactured, but it is not waterproof. Water resistance is not a permanent condition and decreases or is lost over time due to normal wear and tear, repair, disassembly, or damage. Dropping your device may result in loss of water resistance. Google Pixel Watch is designed to be used in shallow water and should not be used for activities involving water at high velocity or high temperature. Some Google Pixel Watch bands are not water-resistant. See g.co/pixelwatch/water for details. After any exposure to liquid, we recommend drying the watch and band because, as with any wearable device, it’s best for your skin if the band is clean and dry.
