Dungeons and Doomknights is a brand new game styled after the NES action adventure games of old. Is it worth checking out? Here’s our review of the game for Nintendo Switch!

Dungeons and Doomknights is an all-new retro 8-bit action/adventure game that was created for the NES. And now its on the Nintendo Switch with a bunch of extras. Is it any good?

Yes, it is very good. If you’re like me and you grew up with this sort of game, then you’ll really love Dungeons and Doomknights. The game doesn’t have the best story, but none of those NES games did. Basically you’re a knight whose on a quest to stop a great evil. What makes this game’s story better other NES games is that it doesn’t take itself seriously and the dialogue is really funny. The gameplay is even better!

Its the gameplay though that makes Dungeons and Doomknights a blast. The combat is simple and yet addictive. You go around hit the undead with your axe and explore a pretty big, interconnected world.

This game feels very inspired by Adventures of Link for the NES. When you go into some areas, you’ll be a sidescrolling, platforming mode. Other times you’ll be in a slightly overhead mode. Its a lot of fun to explore this world and find new enemies and abilities. Its a fun game and it looks neat too.

The 8-bit graphics for Dungeons and Doomknights are perfect. The game looks like a very detailed in NES game. The developers put a lot of love and care into this game. The sound and music are pretty cool too. And if all that isn’t enough for you, there are other games in available to play too.

If one game is not enough for you, then you check out the mods included with the game, like a mod where you control a dog on the quest. There’s also a Pac-man like mod and a black and white mod. The black and white mod tries to treat the story like an old black and white movie. Just play it again Sam!

And there’s another game included here too. In that game, you go room to room using magic to navigate the rooms, get rid of enemies and go on to the next room. Its a pretty neat game. All of the mods and the separate game have similar cool NES style graphics.

Overall Dungeons and Doomknights is an great collection. It feels like a retro collection of games thats been brought out in the best way possible. Its a fun experience and if you love NES action adventure games, then you need to check this game out.

Thanks to Christopher F. Arnold for providing a digital code for this review. Dungeons and Doomknights is available now for the Nintendo Switch eshop!
