Esports is redefining sports

The internet and the digital culture is slowly giving a new definition to sports. It is moving towards competitive environments with professional leagues and even tournaments. Sponsors are readily available, and there is no shortage of spectators. Brands are often more than happy to partner with organizations and teams associated with e-sports.

This is because the industry is not limited to one gender, age bracket, or country. It merely has no barrier. In traditional sports, it is often seen that sports played by males are more popular. However, in the case of e-sports, this does not hold true.

E-sports also does not have a TV barrier. There is seldom an issue of rights, and there is no boundation of how and when the content will be shown. You can viably head to YouTube to check out some exciting by Betway Esports, like this video in which some West Ham players are trying to cast some great Counter-Strike moments:

Potential for revenue

The e-sports industry has an unprecedented flow of revenue. The revenue channels can be broadly classified into three categories: the money generated from broadcasters by the sale of content rights, the income from live streaming platforms, and some revenue through advertisements, which is mainly from the games industry.

It has been observed in many cases that some online tournaments have many spectators often touching the million number. Brands can not miss this opportunity for exposure. But the revenue stream, which has the most potential and seeing exponential growth, is media rights.

Recognition from various organizations

Amidst its fast-growing popularity, specific organizations are also acknowledging its existence and appreciating it. One such example is of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Paris 2024 bid team was even keen and taking an interest in making esports a medalling event. The IOC said in a statement that esports should not be considered less than a sporting activity.

The players take preparation seriously and train with the same intensity as athletes belonging to traditional sports. There are some plans to build a dedicated sports arena in a pair of casinos in Las Vegas. Students from the Tokyo College of Anime also have a course that helps them prepare to become professional esports commentators.

Keenness from the audience

It is not as if all the revenue is generated from advertisements and media rights. The spectators are also not stepping back from spending some huge bucks. Some tickets of a top game cost no less than a premier football game. Moreover, even merchandising is a lucrative option. There are branded shirts, mousepads, phone covers, and even some branded chairs. Additionally, the future looks bright with the introduction of 5G mobile services. This will enhance connections over the globe and produce a new wave of content creation and distribution deals.
