What would a bear do if an evil oil company destroyed his forest? Well, if he’s a video game bear, he’ll go after the oil company of course! In Epic Dumpster Bear for Wii U, you play as a bear who platforms his way to justice. Is the journey worth it though? Lets find out!

Usually in platformers, story is not very important. And while Epic Dumpster Bear’s story isn’t great, it’s a lot better than I thought it would be. Epic Dumpster Bear actually has cutscenes and tries to tie everything together, which is pretty neat. The story won’t win any awards, but it is nice to see a platformer try to have an interesting story. However, Epic Dumpster Bear’s gameplay is a lot better than its story!

Epic Dumpster Bear has really good controls and, especially early on, even newbies can learn the controls and play the game. These early levels are pretty easy but also very fun. Best of all, the game doesn’t get lazy and have the same enemies and challenges over and over. Epic Dumpster Bear introduces a variety of enemies and challenges often to keep the game interesting! Its pretty impressive. Though, of course, the game gets harder as you go.

If there is one major fault with the gameplay its that you are only given two hearts (three if you use game coins to buy one) and this means that you’ll die a lot in the harder levels. Its too bad that the bear wasn’t given upgradeable heath. Two hearts just isn’t enough for most of the harder levels! Still, the game remains fun and interesting as you go and there is no timer, so you only have to worry about the enemies and challenges. And if you think the game seems too traditional of a platformer at times, then you should definitely check out its bonus areas!

The bonus levels in Epic Dumpster Bear take advantage of the Wii U gamepad’s touch screen to manipulate platforms by pressing buttons, which adds a bit of puzzle gaming to the platforming. I liked these levels a lot and they were a great change of pace from the normal levels. Epic Dumpster Bear also supports off-tv play for the normal levels! The game’s gamepad use is very impressive. There is a lot to be impressed about with this game, although the game’s graphics don’t quite live up to the rest of it.

Epic Dumpster Bear’s graphics could be a lot better. I think the backgrounds, especially, look a bit dull. The character models in the game are slightly realistic but don’t have the sense of style that many other platformers do. The platforms in the levels are ok looking. Epic Dumpster Bear is definitely not the worst looking game on the Wii U, but I do feel like it could have been better looking.

The game’s soundtrack, on the other hand, is very good! I like all of the music in the game and the sound effects are well done. There is, in fact, a lot of things that are well done about this game!

Epic Dumpster Bear is a pretty good game! While the game’s graphics and story could be better, its gameplay is really fun and the game’s gampad use is excellent. I was also really impressed by the game’s soundtrack. Overall, I liked this game a lot and if you like platforming games, then I recommend you check this one out. There is a lot of content in this game and a lot of surprises. I think you’ll have fun with it!
