The Wolf Among Us

The finale for Telltale’s noir-inspired game series The Wolf Among Us is a marked improvement over its predecessor, In Sheep’s Clothing. This 90-minute episode is viciously paced, offering well-written and thought provoking dialogue choices, with some of the best fight sequences in the series thus far. There’s also a welcome, but surprising sense of ambiguity in Cry Wolf that further cements The Wolf Among Us as one of Telltale’s more interesting and refreshing works.

The Wolf Among Us’ third episode, A Crooked Mile, represents a turning point for Telltale’s unique, fairy-tale based game series. Following the slowly paced second episode, Smoke and Mirrors, which acted as a filler entry more than anything, A Crooked Mile is much more tumultuous. Telltale was able to ensconce the series with the first two episodes, and has afforded itself the ability to offer up more engaging and exciting material that pushes the series forward dramatically.

It's been an awfully long time since the first episode of The Wolf Among Us was released, and that' s not good for episodic content. I don't remember which decisions I've made or who the main characters are, but I do remember two things: telling Bufkin to 'eff' off, and that final shocking twist in the closing moments of the game. Well, despite the gap, Telltale today released a new trailer for The Wolf Among Us: Episode 2, and that it'll be available to download next week.

It was the surprise fantasy detective story of 2013, but unfortunately Telltale's The Wolf Among Us disappeared of a lot of radars when the developer announced episode two wouldn't be available until 2014. Now, with the first episode of season two of The Walking Dead out of the way, Telltale have announced a more specific release date: the first week of February.

Following the success of The Walking Dead, developer Telltale Games continues its trend of churning out compelling narrative experiences with the recent release of The Wolf Among Us. Based off of the Fables comic book series created by Bill Willingham, which follows recognizable fairy tale characters living in 80s New York, The Wolf Among Us is a delightful prequel that beautifully introduces the creative world Willingham was able to forge back in 2002.
