God of War: Ascension demo

If you want to get a taste of Kratos’s next PS3 adventure (and probably his last), you can download the demo for God of War: Ascension right now from the PlayStation Network. The demo gives you a chance to escape from the Prison of the Damned, an “epic” early level that’s bound to whet your excitement for release day – March 16th.

Early feedback on the demo suggests that it’s actually very, very good, and that new features – like the ability to pick up enemy weapons – add rather neatly to the franchise. One fan on the PlayStation Blog said that if the rest of the game could deliver, this might be the best in the series yet.

God of War: Ascension is also the first in the series to let players battle it out online. Although a lot of fans seem to have been a little weary of a multiplayer mode, Arron Kaufman was again quick to try and reduce their worrying:

“We wanted to bring something new and fresh to God of War, not just for the sake of doing it, but doing it RIGHT.”

The God of War series is one of Sony’s flagship franchises, known for its intense violence and massive boss battles. Ascension, the sixth game in the series, was announced in April 2012 after over a year of speculation. The God of War Saga was released last year, a collection that contained all five previous God of War games, and is region free, so definitely one to import. And if you don’t fancy investing in the full series, PlayStation Plus members have been given the first game absolutely free. Download in the next two weeks to take advantage of the offer.
