Everything from State of Play January 2024

Yesterday was the first peek we got of what Sony has planned for Playstation Fans in 2024, and I for one am mostly excited about what I saw yesterday!

Sony’s January 2024 State of Play event showcased a diverse lineup of games for the PlayStation 5, with over 40 minutes of updates. The highlights included:

  1. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach:
    • Kojima Productions presented a lengthy trailer for Death Stranding 2, officially titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.”
    • Norman Reedus’ character, Sam Porter Bridges, returns to face off against a new group called Drawbridge.
    • The trailer featured a potential villain with a chainsaw-guitar-hybrid weapon that shoots lightning.
    • The game stars Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, Troy Baker, and more.

  2. New Action Espionage Game by Kojima Productions:
    • Following the Death Stranding 2 trailer, Hideo Kojima confirmed his studio is working on a new action espionage game for PlayStation, aiming to blur the line between video game and film.
  3. Rise of the Ronin:
    • Team Ninja provided a deep dive into Rise of the Ronin, an action game set to release on March 22.
    • The presentation showcased the hub world of Yokohama, 1-on-1 sword combat with a parry system, and other gameplay elements.
  4. Until Dawn [Remaster]:
    • A remaster of Until Dawn is confirmed and is set to release on PlayStation 5 and PC in 2024.
    • The remaster, developed by Ballistic Moon, features enhanced graphics.
  5. Stellar Blade:
    • A deep dive into Stellar Blade, an action game developed by Shift Up and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
    • The game is set in an apocalyptic Earth, where players control the character Eve, battling mech-like enemies and hostile survivors.
    • Stellar Blade is scheduled for release on April 26, 2024.
  6. Dragon’s Dogma II:
    • Capcom shared another trailer for Dragon’s Dogma 2, with the game set to release on March 22.
  7. Sonic x Shadow Generations:
    • SEGA announced Sonic x Shadow Generations, an enhanced remaster of Sonic Generations featuring new content with Shadow the Hedgehog.
    • The game is set to release on various platforms in Autumn 2024.
  8. Silent Hill Spin-off and Remake:
    • Konami introduced Silent Hill: The Short Message, a free-to-play spin-off, available to play on the day of the State of Play.
    • A new trailer for the Silent Hill 2 Remake was also shared, although no release date was provided.
  9. Judas:
    • A new trailer for Judas, the next game from Ken Levine, creator of BioShock.
    • The game features colorful, dystopian environments with first-person combat.

  10. V Rising:
    • An isometric action game with Diablo vibes, V Rising, is set to come to PlayStation 5 in 2024.
  11. Dave the Diver:
    • Dave the Diver, a surprise hit in 2023, is coming to PlayStation in April, with a Godzilla update planned for May 2024.
  12. Zenless Zone Zero:
    • Hoyoverse’s newest game, Zenless Zone Zero, is in development for PlayStation 5.
  13. Metro Awakening VR:
    • Metro Awakening VR brings the series to virtual reality, set before the events of Metro 2033.
  14. Legendary Tales for PlayStation VR 2:
    • Urban Wolf Games revealed Legendary Tales, a first-person game with combat using magic, swords, hammers, bow and arrow, and more for PlayStation VR 2.
  15. Foamstars:
    • Square Enix shared a new trailer for Foamstars ahead of its launch on PlayStation Plus, featuring new characters for the competitive foam shooter.
  16. Helldivers 2:
    • The event started with a brief look at Helldivers 2, showcasing its multiplayer shooter action ahead of its launch on February 8.
