Our friends at The LEGO Group reminded me the other day that Super Hero Day is coming up on April 28th! While I did know this, I completely forgot. Last year, our LEGO gift guide for Holiday 2020 was heavily focused on kids LEGO franchises like Ninjago, Toy Story, and more. This year, LEGO rolled out a new seeding program for reviewers here in Canada, and while it might have meant less sets to review in total, it did mean we could make more extravagant requests, which we most definitely did.

We've reviewed a ton of sets in 2021 thanks to our good friends at the LEGO Group, and when I originally reached out to pick up our last review item of 2021, I decided to go in a totally new direction - LEGO Technic. I've reviewed City sets, Ninjago sets, Ideas sets, and more. But I've never purchased a Technic set, let alone reviewed one. So our good friends were able to send the LEGO Off-Road Buggy for review. While only featuring roughly 375 pieces, it was easily the toughest build of 2021.

I'm not shy about stating my early opinions of LEGO Super Mario - the entire concept looked really uninteresting, and I saw this being one of LEGO's very rare flops. I didn't want a chunky Mario who played sounds and collected coins. I wanted regular sized Mario minifigures, with other characters like Bowser or the Kooplings built on the same minifig base as Hagrid from Harry Potter or the Hulk from the Avengers. It is not often that we look at one of the LEGO Ideas sets here on GamesReviews, but LEGO was nice enough to track down the Medieval Blacksmith set for us to review, and although it took a bit of time to find and get it here, it was well worth the wait. This large and detailed set from LEGO brings me back to the days of playing with my castle LEGO sets, complete with knights, peasants, and more. But with the hefty price tag, is this set worth it? Let's dive in!

Vidiyo from LEGO is their latest physical and digital LEGO product that combines the love of bricks with the love of video making and music. From the get go, the concept feels a bit weird and out of left field, but execution is fantastic. With a bunch of new and unique bricks to collect - many of which will have amazing uses well after the desire to play Vidiyo ends - this is an easy recommendation that may take a small leap of faith.
