Top 5 Animal Themed Board Games

I am a huge sucker for games that involve animals, whether the game uses cards, animeeples, or even cardboard chits. I’ve done a top-5 animal themed board games video in the past, but thought I would update my list based on games I’ve played recently, as well as changes in my opinions and desires to play certain games. Let’s take a look! Number 5 – Zoo Tycoon  This is a game that almost fell off my list, first and foremost…

New Terminology, New Mechanics – Looking at Smuggle / Smuggling in Star Wars Unlimited

New ways to play Star Wars Unlimited are here with the latest release, Shadows of the Galaxy. About a week ago, we took a look at one of the new mechanics, Bounties, and how that could drastically change the way we play the game, in a very positive, thematic way. You can read all about our view on Bounties here!  Today we are focusing on another big game changing element, the ability to Smuggle! Let’s take a look at what…

Board Games Becoming more Eco Friendly

I recently received a copy of Catan: New Energies from Catan Studios and Asmodee Canada, and what struck me when unboxing the game (see below) was how much Catan Studios is working towards more eco-friendly produced board games. In fact, I’ve noticed this across the board game industry, and I’m here for it. As I scrolled through Kickstarter and Gamefound this week, I couldn’t count the number of games that promised eco-friendly packaging and production. Whether that was using recycled…

New Terminology, New Mechanics – Looking at Bounty / Bounties in Star Wars Unlimited

Last week, Asmodee Canada and Fantasy Flight Games sent over a few of the products that will be launching in stores when the second set of Star Wars Unlimited hits store shelves. While many trading card games will run a few sets before changing some key game mechanics - i.e., Disney adding Locations in their third release), Fantasy Flight Games has opted to make a change right away with the second set, and what we can expect is looking pretty promising.

Upgraded Bits are Nice, But Not Necessary – Board Game Rambling about Wyrmspan

Recently, Stonemaier Games sent us over a copy of Wyrmspan for review, and we think it is a brilliant game (more on that in the near future). Whenever we get review items from Stonemaier, they are sent to reviewers via the regional Stonemaier Games webstore. We have always been upfront with the fact that Stonemaier provides us the games at no-cost, but since they send it to us with free shipping, I always peruse the store and often will buy…

Rise of Babel Board Game First Impressions

I originally reached out to Bedouin Games when their game The Flood was funded and heading out to backers after their successful crowdfunding campaign. Although we haven’t had the chance to look at The Flood yet – very soon, we hope! – Elijah was kind enough to send over their next game coming to crowdfunding, Rise of Babel. Once again a Bible themed game, Rise of Babel will have players building decks and playing cards throughout the game attempting to…

Doomlings Expansions Overview and Thoughts

Doomlings was a game my family really enjoyed, and I’m so glad that the company sent over a copy of the game for us to play. Honestly, it is a game I’ve been looking at for a long time, and while I’m not opposed to purchasing games myself, we have so many come through the office that even if I do purchase games, they often sit in shrink for months. With a review opportunity, I HAD to play Doomlings, and…

Tomten Components Overview and Review

Is it July yet? Can we say Christmas in July? Well never mind, today we have the fantastic pleasure of looking at the components for an upcoming crowdfunding campaign for the game Tomten. Tomten is a Christmas themed game of fun where players and work cooperatively, in teams, or competitively to complete contracts while preparing for the holiday season. There isn’t a ton in the box, but based on the copy I am looking at, the production quality is great!…
