New Star Wars Collectible Card Game Coming in 2024

Collectible card gaming has been dominated by a few powerhouses over the past few years, namely Pokemon, Magic the Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh. Many have tried to break into the space – both via official companies and failed Kickstarter campaigns – but haven’t been able to make a dent. This year, Lorcana from Ravesnburger, a Disney collectible card game, will be launching and next year, Fantasy Flight Games is launching a Star Wars collectible card game.

Here is a bit of the news from Fantasy Flight Games:

“Today, Fantasy Flight Games, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd., announced the upcoming release of Star Wars: Unlimited, an all-new trading card game of unlimited possibilities. This game features iconic heroes, villains, ships, and settings from all facets of the legendary Star Wars franchise, including movies, TV series, comics, video games, and everything in between. The game will launch globally in 2024.”

The game promises to be fast paced and dynamic, with new sets launching a few times each year. Like all collectible card games, players can get special and variant cards that function the same as the regular card, but are more rare and valuable. The company promises to have local store events and worldwide events to help promote the game, pushing growth and investing in the games future. Here is more from Jim Cartwright, Product Strategy Director for Fantasy Flight Games:

“Ensuring this game was accessible to all players was key for us, so whether you are a casual player, competitor, or collector, there’s something for everyone in this game. Straightforward mechanics are the driving force behind the design. It’s clean and concise with no gimmicks – a card game in its purest form.”

With the backing of Lucas Films and the Star Wars franchise, there is a good chance that Star Wars: Unlimited will have the legs to stand against the biggest games in the industry. That being said, only time will tell how successful it will be!
