The Evolution of Video Games Has Inspired All Developers to be Better

Video games are often held up as the pinnacle of innovation, gameplay, and sophisticated software. If you’ve ever played the latest offerings from game developers such as EA, Ubisoft, and Epic Games, you’ll probably agree. Take, for example, Elden Ring by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment. Released in 2022, this RPG takes players on an epic journey through a fantasy world filled with twists, turns, and layers upon layers of detail.

Modern Games Are Multifaceted Monsters

The developers are clearly the driving force behind Elden Ring, but it’s also worth noting that the game was directed by well-known creative director, Hidetaka Miyazaki. And, thanks to contributions from the man behind Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin, you’ve got a multifaceted video game that’s truly engaging.

Of course, Elden Ring isn’t the only video game we can hold up as an example of the industry’s dominance when it comes to cutting-edge technology and entertainment. However, something that often gets overlooked when it comes to gaming is that mainstream video games aren’t the only examples of high-quality creative content. Products from indie developers, for example, now have a bigger platform than ever before. Thanks to gaming networks such as Steam, companies of all sizes can get their products seen by the masses.

Splitgate is a great example of an indie game that made it big. Released in 2019, this offering from 1047 Games didn’t gain much traction for over a year. However, once gamers saw how it fused elements of Halo and Portal into a slick shooter, it exploded. One of the main reasons it broke through is the fact you can adjust a range of variables to create a new experience each time you play. That keeps it engaging and, in turn, shows that indie games have the ability to be as complex and engaging as their big-budget counterparts.

Video Games Raise the Bar for All

Another sector that’s seen a marked increase in innovative products over the last decade is casino gaming. Many of the leading casino providers have taken inspiration from their counterparts in video gaming. Inspiration is not only the sincerest form of flattery but the seed of innovation. As such, developers like Evolution, NetEnt, and Thunderkick have incorporated novel elements into their products.

By fusing classic casino games such as blackjack, roulette, and slots with animated video sequences, they instantly become more engaging. Taking this a step further, some casino slots now feature unlockable achievements and multiple levels. This takes them fully into the realm of video games. That’s obviously great for players, but it’s a positive for the industry as a whole. Casino game developers are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Online casino gaming is a relatively new industry compared to video gaming. Therefore, to expect the same level of complexity in blackjack et al as their video game counterparts is unfair. The point here, however, is that the industry is evolving, and classic casino games are becoming more complex. Video games may still be the most sophisticated products in the industry, but their quality is raising the bar across all genres. From indie games to casino classics, standards are increasing across the board and that’s great for gamers of all persuasions.
