More Thoughts From Me #287: Ten Games I’m Looking Forward to In 2022

2021 is almost over and for video games its been a great year. But 2022? It looks like next year will be even better. So before we go off to Christmas and the New Year, I thought I’d talk about the ten games I’m looking forward to in 2022!

Bye 2021. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Yes, its been a great year for video games. It just hasn’t been a great year for most other things. So as we get close to saying goodbye to 2021, let’s take a look at the ten games I’m looking forward in 2022:

10. Advance Wars 1+2 – I admit I wasn’t a big fan of the Advance Wars games previously, but Wayforward is handling this remake of the first two games. They are a great developer and I’m sure they’ll bring their magic to the Advance Wars series. Plus, look at those graphics!

9. Splatoon 3 – I love the Splatoon series. I was a bit skeptical with the second game at first but once I played it, I found that it was just as good, if not better, then the first game. I’m sure Splatoon 3 will be a wonderful addition to the Nintendo Switch library!

8. Horizon Forbidden West – The first Horizon game is jaw droppingly cool on the PS4. And next year Forbidden West looks to take things to the next level. I’m glad the game won’t be PS5 exclusive. I really want to play this game!

7. Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Kirby returns next year with a platformer that looks to mix 3D and 2D much like the Donkey Kong Country games. Its very cool to see Kirby in a more epic adventure and this will likely be the best Kirby Switch game yet.

6. Metal Slug Tactics – I always thought the Metal Slug games were just okay. Neat graphics but not my style of gameplay. Metal Slug Tactics however? I love tactical games. Metal Slug Tactics looks like its going to be a lot of fun.

5. Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga – This was supposed to come out this year (it was on my 2020 list too) but didn’t make it. I hope we’ll see the Skywalker Saga in 2022. It looks like it’ll be the ultimate Lego Star Wars. It covers all nine of the Skywalker saga movies!! Wow. No wonder its taking so long to make. I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait.

4. Pokémon Legends: Arceus – A Pokémon game at number 4 on the list?! Yes. This year was the year I became a Pokémon fan. I loved Brilliant Diamond. I’m getting Sword for Christmas. And Arceus? I’m looking forward to it a lot. The graphics looks great and the gameplay looks fun. I’ll have to try and beat Sword before Arceus comes out!

3. Triangle Strategy – We may never see another Final Fantasy Tactics but next year, Square Enix is releasing the next best thing: Triangle Strategy. While I’m not a big fan of the name of the game…c’mon Square Enix….the actual game itself looks amazing. I loved the preview demo we got this year. I think its going to be a fantastic game!

2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge – I’ve been a TMNT fan ever since I was kid. I grew up with them: toys, cartoons, comics, and yes: video games. TMNT 2 on the NES was my favorite among the video games. And Shredder’s Revenge looks a lot like TMNT 2. I’m so excited for this new game. I can’t wait to play it. It would be number 1 expect..well..you know…

1. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 (temp title)– This game may or may not be out next year. It was on my 2020 can’t wait to play list and…well…that didn’t happen. As of this moment, its supposed to come out in 2022. Here’s hoping it happens because this game looks awesome!

And those are the games I’m looking forward to in 2022. So far!

Nintendo hasn’t announced all of their 2022 games yet and of course there will be plenty of indie surprises next year too. I can’t wait to see what new video games are in store for us next year!

What video games are you looking forward to in 2022?

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I also hope Square Enix has more surprises in store for us next year: Pixel remasters on consoles at least!
