More Thoughts From Me #245: A Wild Return

Its been awhile since I’ve played Breath of the Wild. I beat the game on the Wii U. And then earlier this year, I finally bought it on the Nintendo Switch. I’ve played it some on there but not a lot. Of course with the new Hyrule Warriors coming up, my interest in Zelda has been reignited. So over the last couple of days, I’ve been playing Breath of the Wild on Switch again. What have I been doing?!

Much like Skyrim, I love just exploring the world of Breath of the Wild. Sure, the story is good, the characters are good, but what really makes this game amazing is its vast open world. You can go anywhere from the beginning. Of course, just because you can go anywhere doesn’t mean you’ll survive anywhere, but you can go off in whatever direction you want and hopefully you’re ready.

And thats what I’ve been doing lately. I’ve gone back to Breath of the Wild and I’ve just been exploring a lot. I’ll look at my map and go “Okay, I haven’t explored that place yet.”

One day I found myself heading toward the desert. I killed some wolves, blew up a rock, saw an oasis, ignored the desert warnings and headed toward that all female town. I got kicked out at the door.

Next time I played, I headed back toward the center of the map. I looked over and saw a place to the west I hadn’t explored yet. I keep going, following a mysterious green light in the distance. Next thing I know, I’ve found this guy!

I tried to sneak up on him and he kept running away. I finally used my ice power to trap him in a little, I snuck up on him and got on his back. I tried to calm him but he threw me off and then disappeared. I waited for him to return but he hasn’t yet.

Then I found a shrine nearby. I looked up how to complete it on youtube. Don’t look at me that way. Some of these shrines (aka most of them) are tricky!

After that I head back to a village, found a fairy who wanted money to upgrade my outfit and then I headed back to town. I quit for awhile.

I plan to play again. Who knows where I’ll go next?!

Even though I beat Breath of the Wild on the Wii U, there was some places in the desert I had never seen before (I don’t remember that rock I blew up) and I had never found that strange horse on my previous playthrough.

There is still so much to discover in Breath of the Wild. The game holds so many secrets. I wonder what I’ll find next!

Do you still play Breath of the Wild? Tell me about some of your experiences with the game!

Also are you excited for the Age of Calamity?! I know I am!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I wonder what Breath of the Wild 2 will be like!
