Genshin Impact First Impressions

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play game that is now out on the Playstation 4, PC, and mobile. I downloaded it for the PS4 and I’ve played it a little bit. Here are my first impression of Genshin Impact for the PS4!

Genshin Impact is free to download and play. I was very curious to see if this game is any good.

Unlike many free-to-play games, Genshin Impact is a single player game, although I hear that online co-op does open up later on. At the moment though, I am playing the game by myself. Well…mostly.

You see Genshin Impact, from the very beginning, gives you a constant companion that follows you and gives you tips and hints. Think of her as your Navi. And yes, she is just as annoying as Navi, if not more so.

So while Genshin is a single player game, you are never totally alone.

Okay, so that part of the game is a bit annoying. However, there is a lot to love about this game so far.

Let’s talk about the graphics for a moment.

Genshin Impact is like someone took Breath of the Wild and put it into an anime blender. In other words, it is an absolutely beautiful game. This comes from someone who is not really an anime fan but whew, I don’t think anyone could say that this game isn’t breathtaking. Its a really good looking game.

The only downside is that I have seen some framerate stuttering and the game actually paused briefly one time. These hiccups are not constant though. The game runs pretty well most of the time.

How about the gameplay though? Is Genshin Impact any fun?

Yes, this game is a lot of fun. It does, again, remind me of Breath of the Wild but in a very good way (you can even climb stuff like BOTW). It also has its own unique gameplay elements like switching between characters, leveling up characters, a skill tree, jumping, and ohmygosh, an honest to goodness Kid Icarus like bit of flying.

I’m not very far into Genshin Impact but I love this game already. The graphics and gameplay are just great, despite some hiccups. The story is interesting. I like most of the characters. Well, not the Navi companion but everyone else. I’ve only played single player at the moment, so I have no idea how the multiplayer is. I’m not even sure I want to play multiplayer. The single player is so much fun!

And most amazing of all…

THIS GAME IS FREE.

Look, if you like Breath of the Wild and/or action-rpgs with a dash of anime, you should download this game right now. Just stop reading this and download the game.

Okay, I have to go back to playing Genshin Impact now!

Genshin Impact is currently available on PS4, PC, and mobile. A Nintendo Switch version is in the works.
