Call of Duty Championship

The Call of Duty annual tournament is held every year. To qualify for the ultimate round, teams around the world have to clear the initial event. The members of the team should be above 18 years of age at the time of participation. The final round is held in Burbank, California, the USA, in August every year.

The first tournament was held for Call of Duty: Black ops in 2013. It was played on Xbox 360, and the winner of that season was Fariko Impact. Currently, the title is held by Dallas Empire. In 2020, Activision and Sony had announced the organisation of the Call of Duty Mobile Championship. But it was cancelled because of COVID-19, and the prize money of $750,000 was evenly distributed among the seven teams that had qualified for the final round.

Counter-Strike: GO Major Championship

The developer of the game, Valve, organises and sponsors the CS: GO championship. The first tournament was played in Sweden, which DreamHack hosted. DreamHack is recognised by the Twin Galaxies and Guinness book of world record as the biggest organiser of esports tournaments and LAN parties.

Valve is also known for maintaining a strict anti-cheat policy, and its VAC or Valve anti-cheat software has caught many cheaters hoodwinking the game. Hovik KQLY was banned for life for cheating. He would never participate in the CS: GO major. While the 2020 major got cancelled, StarLadder Major: Berlin 2019 was won by Astralis, who holds the title now. Gamers would compete for the title in PGL Major Stockholm 2021, which will be held in November 2021.

ESWC- Esports World Convention

It was earlier known as Electronic Sports World Cup. Ligarena is a French company that organised the championship for the first time in 2003. In 2012, Oxent acquired it from Games- Solution. Here, individual players and teams qualify the national round to represent their country on a global scale. The world cup is played on games like Call of Duty, Apex Legends, PUBG, and Fortnite. France holds the highest tally of medals, followed by the USA and Sweden. The latest event that was held was ESWC Africa in 2019. However, the event did not get as much enrolment as expected, due to which it was postponed.

Evolution Championship Series aka EVO

This annual video games tournament is all in for fighting games. The championship is open for all the participants from around the world, especially Japan flock to take part in EVO every year. The Evolution tournament was earlier known as Battle of the Bay. The first tournament was held in 1996 in Sunnyvale, California, USA.

The name was changed to EVO in 2002. Since 2005, its venue has been Las Vegas Valley. The 2021 event would be sponsored and organised by Sony and Endeavour esports sister concern RTS. The game also hosts events that run parallel against the tournament like BYOC or bring your own console for entertaining the participants or the spectators.

The esports industry is expected to grow every year. This is why luxury hotels and casinos have been developing events around them. The day is not far when esports would be included in the gaming category for the Olympics.
