Ubisoft Nails it at E3 2019

A number of years ago, many wondered what was happening to Ubisoft, as the company released a few sub-par titles based on their long running franchises. Fast forward to 2019, and those worries appear to be a thing of the past. While Ubisoft is still relying on the amazing franchises they have developed, they area also bringing new ideas to the table. Let’s dive into the 2019 E3 Press Conference!

There are a ton of things to digest here, and we will get to them all in due time; in this article, however, I want to address a few of the more shocking announcements, beginning with Uplay+!

Uplay+

Subscription based gaming appears to be the platform of the future as more and more companies begin moving to this model. Microsoft has Xbox Game Pass, Google will be launching Google Stadia soon, and now Ubisoft is joining the party with Uplay+. Set to launch this September, Uplay+ will provide gamers over 100 games for one low monthly cost – 14.99 in the United States. Not only will the service provide fans access to Ubisoft’s back catalogue, but they also will be able to access brand new titles as well, including Watch Dogs®: Legion, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Breakpoint, Rainbow Six® Quarantine, Gods & Monsters™ and more.

While I love owning the games I want to play in a physical format, I can see huge value here for those looking to dive into Ubisoft’s huge catalogue of titles. This is a huge home run, in my opinion!

Gods and Monsters

New IP announced at E3 come in two forms: the games that are shown off and details are provided, and the ones that just get a CGI trailer. Gods and Monsters falls somewhere in between. We didn’t see a whole ton of action from the short teaser trailer, but got enough to wet the appetite. This action adventure title set to release in February 2020 looks pretty good, although there wasn’t much to base our opinions on.

From Ubisoft PR:

In Gods & Monsters players embody Fenyx, a forgotten hero on a quest to restore power to the Greek gods after it was stolen by Typhon, the deadliest creature in Greek mythology. Players will explore the Isle of the Blessed and prove their heroism as they face dangerous mythological creatures, including fearsome Gorgons and Harpies and mighty Cyclopes. Gifted with special powers from the gods of Olympus, players must overcome treacherous dungeons, challenging trials and perform heroic feats on their journey to save the gods. A storybook adventure at heart, Gods & Monsters features a lively and colorful open world to discover. Players will roam freely on the ground and glide in the air, taking advantage of their extraordinary abilities to explore this vibrant world full of surprises, epic battles, quests and fantastical creatures. The journey will be as challenging and rewarding as the destination, and players will emerge as the heroes they were meant to become.

This is a title we definitely cannot wait to play!

Roller Champions

While I am always skeptical of Free-to-Play experiences, Ubisoft has been doing so well lately with their long running frnachises and new IPs that I’m cautiously optimistic for this roller competition! Here is some info from Ubisoft PR:

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal with Ubisoft Winnipeg and Ubisoft Pune, Roller Champions is a new sports sensation delivering exhilarating and fast-paced team PvP gameplay – on wheels. Two teams of three players are pitted against each other in arenas around the world, and players are cheered on by crowds of roaring fans as they acquire the ball, pass it to teammates and dodge and tackle opponents to score a goal in the illuminated hoop that appears above the rink. Competition is everywhere, so teamwork is crucial on the road to becoming Roller Champions! Roller Champions combines fun and collaborative team play with fierce and friendly competitive action. Three players team up and use speed, wit, tackles and dodges to lap around the arena to be the first team to reach five points. Ride up and down the walls of the elliptical arena to gain speed, pivot, pass or race toward the goal to take a shot.

There was so much more announced by Ubisoft including new content for The Division 2, a brand new Watch Dogs, and much more! Stay tune for more information on these great titles!
