Radio Squid

Radio Squid for the Nintendo Switch is a shooter that just happens to star a squid. The concept is strange and unique but is the game fun? Let’s take a look!

Radio Squid stars a squid thats shooting his or her way through multiple rooms in a very linear, yet cool take on the shooter genre. The story here is ok, but the gameplay is what you want to pay attention to.

What makes Radio Squid cool? It has a very retro vibe, with a smaller screen and boarder around it. Its initial look is very much like a Gameboy port. Think about the Gameboy ports we got on the 3DS and Wii U; retro games colored white instead of the old school pea green.

And yet, Radio Squid is a bit more detailed than your average Gameboy game. You can also chance the game and boarders colors to make things look different from the simple black and white!

Radio Squid is a pretty cool looking game.

It is also a really hard game. You have to beat all the levels within a “world” for the game to actually save. Otherwise, if you die, you’ll go back to the first level of the world you are on! The game does help you out a little by letting you use up your coins if you die. Once all the coins are gone, its back to the first level of the current world for you.
That can be a very frustrating.

Still, I like Radio Squid’s gameplay. Its very linear but still manages to feel a little bit like a Metroidvania. You won’t get lost in this game though. Arrows will tell you where to go next. I do wish the game had a little more freedom in where you go.

The game’s controls are very solid though. I like how you customize them to play the game the way you want to.
I also enjoy this game’s soundtrack a lot. It has pretty good sound effects also.

Radio Squid is a good game. If you like stylish, strange shooters, than you should check this game out.

Radio Squid gets a 7.5 out of 10.
