What do you think of the end of Disney Infinity?

This week, toys-to-life fans were dealt a major shock when Disney announced that they were ending Disney Infinity and also closing the company that made it. Not only that, but Disney is getting out of making games altogether! My thoughts on the game, this shocking announcement and Disney leaving the industry are below. Also: I’m asking all of our readers: What do you think of all of this?

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! Disney announced that they were ending Disney Infinity, laying off the people who made it, and quitting games altogether. Sure, they will let other people make Disney games if they want to, but Disney Infinity is it for them. The upcoming Alice figures and Finding Dory set will be their final toys for Disney Infinity. This all was such a shock and there were a lot of unhappy fans on twitter this week. I was glad that I never got into the game, but also sad for all of my friends who did and wanted much more from it.

I never did get into Disney Infinity. I always wanted to get into it, but the price of admission, buying all those toys, was just too high for me. And I knew once I started buying those toys, I’d want to buy a lot of them. So I stayed away from the franchise. Even so, I knew there were a lot of people who loved the games. I always thought that the games did really well. Though, I admit I always did see a ton of figures at Wal-mart, but I figured that just meant there weren’t a lot of people locally that played it or Disney was just putting out a ton of the toys. As it turns out, the franchise just wasn’t selling well enough and Disney closed it down.

But to hear that they also laid off an entire game company too and quit making games completely is even more of a shock then Disney Infinity ending. I don’t get why Disney had to do this. Disney makes a lot of money from their movies, toys, cartoons, basically everything they do. Why was Disney Infinity the end of video games for them? Why close a company and lay people off like that? Its a very curious decision by Disney.

This whole situation is jaw dropping. Disney has always made such a huge deal out of Disney Infinity. And there’s always been so much talk from fans about the games and toys. Yes, I’m sure that competition from Lego Dimensions and Nintendo’s amiibo hurt Disney Infinity some, but I can’t imagine that it would hurt Disney so much that they’d just quit making games completely.

I think there are some people who believe this is the end of the toys-to-life genre, but I don’t believe that to be so. Lego Dimensions still seems to be doing well and Nintendo’s amiibo does fantastic. Plus, the Skylanders franchise is still around too. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we see another toys-to-life contender get into the mix in the future. I’m amazed Sony and Microsoft haven’t tried it yet! Who knows what the future will hold…

So what do our readers think about the end of Disney Infinity? Do you think this was a long time coming or is it as out of the blue as it seems? And should Disney keep making games or are they are right to let others bring Disney to us? Let us know what you think in the comments!
