SuperMash Review

SuperMash for the Nintendo Switch lets players mash together two video game genres and to create a randomly generated game. You never know what kind of game you’ll get! Its a unique concept but is SuperMash fun? Let’s find out in this review of SuperMash for the Nintendo Switch!

SuperMash isn’t Super Mario Maker 2. Its not even an indie game like the recently released LevelHead. You do not create video games. Instead, you choose two genres, say RPG and platformer, and they are randomly mashed together to create mini-games.

Then you can play these mini-games and if you want, you can share what you found (via a code) or move on to play another mini-game. None of the games in SuperMash are too long. Many of them have time limits. Personally, I’m not a fan of the time limits. Some people will like the challenge and others will wish they could have a more laid back experience.

Thankfully not all the games have time limits. Usually they do have a certain challenge that you have to beat and once you beat that, the game is over. There are some pretty hard games in there but there are many games that are super easy.

Outside of the mashing, the player will be in a game store where their be given challenges: give me a hard platformer or a shooter jrpg, stuff like that.

The game’s story and the stories you get for the various games are not great, though some of them are funny. Its absolutely the mashing that will keep players coming back.

SuperMash is a pretty unique concept. I love how you never know what you’ll get. Best of all though? The game’s graphics are fantastic. The variety in 2D artwork is pretty stunning. JRPGS, platformers, shooters, stealth games, Metroidvanias, action/adventure games, and a mix of two of each will provide some really cool graphical styles. I do wish some of the games were longer, but I enjoyed my time with this game and I’m pretty sure I’ll keep coming back to it!

If you go into SuperMash expecting some quick and fun little mini-games to play, then you’ll enjoy SuperMash more. Don’t like a certain game?  Go and mash a new one! SuperMash has a ton of replay value and with DLC upcoming, it’ll be a game that contains near unlimited short experiences.  Gamers of all ages and fans of all genres should check this one out. SuperMash is a pretty cool game.

SuperMash gets an 8.5 out of 10.

Thanks to Digital Continue for providing a digital code of this game. SuperMash is now available on the Nintendo Switch eshop!
