Free online games

Having the ability to play games from the comfort of your couch, without the need for fancy controllers and game systems, is a fantastic feeling. Whether you are playing games available on your iPad or iPhone – or favorite Android device of course – or you are tackling another level in a Steam game, playing from your couch, while relaxing with a cold drink and a snack, is always better than sitting at a desk.

Some of these games cost a lot of money, while others are entirely free, or free-to-play, meaning they have some type of pay mechanism within the game in order to generate profits. Even Casinos are getting in on the fun, offering free casino spins for those that sign up on their sites. While this isn’t necessarily going to appeal to everyone, it will appeal to some. And if it doesn’t, there is a host of other games available at the click of a button or the tap of a finger!

Why do we relish the opportunity to play games while laying on the couch? Is it because we are lazy? To the contrary, I would argue. Instead, we live in a society that is obsessed with multitasking, and making sure that we are maximizing every hour within a day. So that means watching your favourite sports teams while spinning the slots, or catching up on some TV while playing a game of Age of Empires. Whatever it is that you might be doing, multitasking is probably a big part of your life.

And companies are actually making it easier to multitask in these scenarios. Games have countdown timers you need to wait out before performing tasks. This is one example of course, but a big one nonetheless. Playing free-to-play mobile apps on my phone – or even paid apps as we will get to in a second – is the perfect way to offset my time watching sports. But it’s not just about free-to-play games!

When Stardew Valley launched on Android, I was playing that game wherever I went. Since the game doesn’t require an internet connection, it’s easy to jump into your farm at any time of the day, wherever you might be, is fantastic. Almost all free-to-play experiences require an Internet connection to enjoy the game, but not so for Stardew Valley. Once you own it, it is yours to play whenever you want, and that includes lounging around on your couch.

So lets look back. It doesn’t matter what type of game you are playing. What matters in 2019 is that you are maximizing your time. So again, whether you are watching sports, catching up on TV, or somewhat watching a movie with your significant other – because how many guys want to watch chick flicks, right? – there is something to do. From casino spins, to poker games, to Angry Birds, to complicated strategy games like Age of Empires, there is no shortage of things to do to occupy, and maximize, your time.

While multitasking with a game isn’t for everyone, it does appeal to a wide variety of people. And as we have noted, companies are continuing to make that process easier and easier. Before long, everyone will have something available for those looking to lounge on the coach. Sony had the PSP, and other major companies have had every handheld device you could imagine. So while your phone is the perfect couch companion, there are definitely more options on the way!
