European Esports Federation to be Formed

Esports has become one of the most popular sports arenas across the globe. Billions of players spend billions of dollars playing the top esports games online, and the tournament calendar is packed. It does not seem likely that the esports phenomenon will slow in its growth any time soon.

This popularity is one of the main reasons behind the intention to form a European Esports Federation. It’s unclear what changes this formation will bring, but it’s certainly a story to follow for anyone who is a keen esports competitor or who is interested in esports betting.

  • The formation of the Federation

The initial discussions about the formation of a European Esports Federation took place at the European Esports meeting in Berlin on April 10 2019. Twelve countries were involved in these discussions, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia and Belgium. The result of this initial discussion was the creation of “The Berlin Declaration” which provides details of the initial vision for the Federation.

The impetus behind the formation of the Federation is the fact that representatives from all of the countries realize that they have a similar vision for the future of esports in their countries. The countries believe it makes sense to strengthen the esports industry throughout Europe by uniting. There is still a lot of discussion needed before the full final details of the Federation are defined, but a start has been made.

The countries are due to meet again at the Swiss Esports Federation on May 28 2019. At a time when there is some fragility to the European community, thanks to Brexit, all of the representatives feel that it’s important to formalise this Federation, to show young people the benefit of being part of Europe. It’s also envisaged that a Federation will help to improve the development of esports at grass roots level.

  • Concerns around the formation of the Federation

Although the aim behind the formation of the Federation seems to be a positive one, there is some concern within the world of esports as a whole. Experts are waiting to see whether the work of the Federation is really about assisting the growth of esports throughout Europe, or whether it is aimed more at controlling what happens in the esports industry in member countries. The truth of the matter will only be known once the European Esports Federation is fully formed.

The world of Esports is massively popular across the globe, as you can see from the number of tournaments that take place each year. This popularity has been recognized in European countries where representatives seem to be keen to use esports as a means of uniting the youth of the continent. This in turn can help the solidarity of the continent as a whole. The formation of the Federation is still in its early days, with more meetings required to formalise membership and plans for the future. But even if the plan is at the initial stages, the buzz created has gotten potential sponsors excited. Even the online store Nestingdolls.co has plans of releasing a collection that would feature cultural highlights from each of the founding countries.
