Are Consoles and PCs Losing the Battle to Mobile Games?

One type of games that have been actively exploring the mobile gaming industry is casino games, such as the ones covered on the Roulette77 network. Nowadays, casino lovers can play their favorite games both on PCs and on the go, with numbers really favoring mobile gaming. Is this applicable to the entire gaming industry? Are consoles and PCs really losing this battle or is it just a period? Let’s take a closer look at this issue.

Mobile Games Are Following Similar Business Models

Whenever you download a game on the App Store or Google Play, you could notice that they work somewhat in a similar manner. Most of these titles are free but have this pay-to-win model where players who invest the most money have the best in-game equipment. This creates a very competitive, yet unfair environment for gaming.

In other words, players don’t like having to pay tons of money to reach certain levels in the game. Mobile games would usually offer a quick start and a lot of free items. Still, once you reach a certain level, it becomes increasingly difficult to make further progress unless you don’t pay for stuff. This is frowned upon by console and PC gamers who don’t like how business is killing the individual skill of players.

Mobile Games Are Repetitive

Unlike casino titles for smartphones, such as roulette, that are just adaptations of their PC counterparts, other genres of games are not just phone versions of PC and console titles. The mobile gaming industry has become so powerful that it is often listed as a separate genre — the genre of mobile games.

If you download some of the most popular titles on Google Play, you’ll notice that most of them follow the same pattern. Although they may vary in terms of genres themselves, it all comes down to several basic concepts such as leveling up heroes and their equipment to improve your rankings.

Don’t get it wrong — there are plenty of great games for smartphones out there that are trying to push the boundary, but they are often marginalized by titles that are profit-driven. Both Google Play and App Store promote such games as they make a lot of profit to these companies as well.

Finally, mobile game developers often want to give the market what it wants, resulting in very little innovation in this industry. Mobile gamers are very specific when it comes to their needs, so creating a game that doesn’t perfectly fit their idea of a good mobile game is a bit risky. That created the market over saturation with games that all have similar concepts, design, and more.

The Witcher Effect

At one point, everyone thought that single-player gaming is over, especially for PCs. However, the game called Witcher 3 defied the odds. The title itself was a statement of a sort that said that traditional gaming isn’t over yet. In other words, projections that single-player gaming is not profitable anymore is proved incorrect by the mere fact that a small company from Poland made a game that broke all the records.

Even if you’re not a fan of single-player titles, it’s safe to conclude that multiplayer games are doing pretty well on consoles and PCs. The titles such as Fortnite, Dota, Counter-Strike, and more are getting increasingly popular.

Conclusion: The Battle Continues

The final answer to the title question is no. Mobile titles are not taking over the market. PCs and consoles are still going strong, and some games such as Witcher proved that it’s still possible to profit from single-player games, meaning gamers will buy games if they are really good. Multiplayer titles that are played as esports are still unprecedented kings of the gaming industry, and most of them are played on PCs and consoles.
