Redout: Space Assault

Do a barrel roll! If you’re missing Star Fox, then Redout: Space Assault will be a game you want to check out. Why? Let’s talk about that in this review of Redout: Space Assault for the Nintendo Switch!

Redout: Space Assault will remind you of Star Fox. No, it doesn’t have talking animals in space but the game’s controls are a lot like Star Fox.

You control your ships up, down, left, and right movement but not its forward movement in on-rail levels. You can boost that forward movement to make it go faster but the direction your ship goes in is controlled by the game. You can even do a barrel roll!

There are occasionally levels where you have a more open environment to explore and fight in. In those you can control the forward movement of your ship. This is very handy in boss levels! Both the on-rail and the more open levels are done really well.

The combat in Redout is also a lot like Star Fox, though you use missiles more. Redout is a pretty hard game. You will die a lot. Upgrading your ship will really help you survive longer.

Redout lets you upgrade your ship and change its color too. The customization for the ship isn’t complex. Its very easy to change colors and upgrade parts of your ship. Going back to levels you’ve beaten and replaying them will help you gain points toward upgrading your ship.

Thankfully Redout’s graphics are really good and you’ll want to go back and check out all the enivormental details. Space, your ship, and everything else in the game looks wonderful both on television and in handheld mode.

Meanwhile, the sound in the game is very nice. The voice acting isn’t as corny as Star Fox’s. I say that with love. Star Fox is still the best.

Redout is a fun game but it does lack the charm of Star Fox. Its universe isn’t as engaging as Nintendo’s classic. Still, if you miss Star Fox, Redout: Space Assault is well worth checking out for some space combat fun.

Redout: Space Assault gets an 8.0 out of 10!
