Nintendo can’t Release a Dedicated amiibo Game

Before you jump all over me for this opinion, hear me out. Nintendo cannot release a dedicated amiibo title without replenishing stock on almost all of their amiibo line up. No one will buy a game – or, they will and inevitably will be disappointed in their experience – if they cannot be guaranteed that content won’t be locked behind impossible to find amiibos.

Before you try to argue that there are rare Skylanders, understand that we are talking about a franchise that is years in the making compared to one that just began late in 2014. One rare Skylander that I can think of is the completely gold plated swapable character only available in the Wii U + Skylanders, 8 GB bundle. I would compare this to the gold Mario amiibo that Nintendo just released. It is collectible, but what the toy actually does is not dependent on it being gold plated (update: Apparently gold Mario amiibo does something special in Mario Party 10; hearing it can be unlocked other ways as well). Their is an easily available alternative.

The harsh reality is that many amiibo toys are nearly impossible to find unless you are willing to fork over 2 or 3 times the value in order to import from a different country or purchase off of a reseller. Nintendo cannot release a dedicated Nintendo amiibo title that takes advantage of, say, King DeDeDe. He isn’t available in stores anymore, so anyone without access to that specific amiibo won’t be able to play large chunks of what Nintendo could possibly release. If it was limited to one amiibo, then it’s not really that big of a deal. But, what about Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Marth, Fox, etc. etc. etc.

Until stock replenishes to a point where I can walk in a store or easily order online, Nintendo cannot release a dedicated amiibo title. For now, we will have to be content with the small uses they have in most new, Nintendo published titles.
