Club Nintendo Going out with a Bang

Nintendo-Header_690x259

I’ve always been fairly critical of Club Nintendo. So has many other outlets, so it came as no surprise that Nintendo announced the cancellation of the program. However, they knew that many fans had hundreds, if not thousands, of coins to use. Nintendo offered up some great rewards for users to spend their coins on.

I personally had 1600 coins to spend, and was able to get on the site before it crashed earlier today. Here’s what I could have bought:

800 Coins for a Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask messenger bag. I purchased this one with my coins as it seemed to be the best coin-to-value ratio and assumed it would be the first to go if I didn’t jump right away.

800 Coins for a Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask Jigsaw Puzzle. This one will likely be very popular, and a collectors item perhaps. As far as I know, Nintendo has never offered up Club Nintendo awards as purchasable items for the general public.

600 Coins for a Legend of Zelda 3DS Pouch. These pouches are actually great to have, and this one looks great with all the classic Zelda icons forming a triforce on the front. I personally have two: one for my 3DS and the other holds various USB keys and SD cards.

700-800 Coins for various Poster Packages. I like these the least, but I would argue that for poster collectors, the Smash Bros ones are particularly nice.

Nintendo also offered up a ton – not an exaggeration – of digital titles for 3DS and Wii U. These are actually great options for someone who 1) doesn’t want the physical rewards or 2) has a few hundred extra coins to spend. These titles range from Wonderful 101 (Wii U), New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS), two Mario vs. Donkey Kong titles (3DS), Paper Mario Sticker Star (3DS) and so many more classic and modern games.

Nintendo has ended the Club Nintendo program on a high note, and kudos to them. I’m glad this is how Nintendo is closing out the program, and I hope they offer similar great rewards for Platinum members when the time comes. Until then, keep trying to log into Club Nintendo. You don’t want to miss out on a reward that you really want!
