When I think of the name Daryl, I always tend to think about The Walking Dead. However now, I’ll be thinking about another Daryl too. Super Daryl Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch is a totally odd game. This game could easily become a cult classic on the Switch. People might look at the previews for this game and go “Thats just too odd.” and pass it by. If you’re smart though, you’ll read my review before dismissing Super Daryl Deluxe!

The story that you’ll find in Super Daryl Deluxe is more complex then you’d think. Its also a story that will often times take a backseat to sidequests and lots of wandering around looking for cool things. Stay with Super Daryl Deluxe though because this is a really fun game.

On the surface, you may think that Super Daryl Deluxe is just a game where you go beat up enemies. There is so much more to this game than being a simple beat ’em up.

First of all, you can give Daryl new skills, level him up, and equip all kinds of crazy gear to him. Daryl also wanders around the High School building and other places completing quests and doing favors for people. So Super Daryl Deluxe is a role playing game, along with being a fighting game.

Then there’s a platforming element to the game that has you jumping around to get to different places. The game is a fighter, an rpg, a platformer, an action game, and an adventure. There are so many elements to this game and yet it all works. Oh and you get to save in the bathroom too!

Super Daryl Deluxe is a totally unique game. If someone were to tell you that theres another game on the Switch like this game, they’d be lying. This game really rocks.

And its has pretty good controls. The walking around, navigating┬ámenus, and all the rest works well. The jumping mechanic is not bad. This game is no Mario, but its no LittlebigPlanet either (Sackboy is floaty). I’d say the biggest knock to this game is that it doesn’t use any of the Switch’s specific controls like the touch screen or motion. Super Daryl’s menus especially looked like they could have used the touch screen controls well. The game, however, does use the HD rumble and that is excellently used.

Super Daryl Deluxe, overall, is a fantastic game. If you pass this game up because you think its looks weird, you are totally missing out on a one of kind experiance. Oh and those graphics that you might think look strange: I think they are some of the best graphics we’ve seen on the Switch so far!

Super Daryl Deluxe is a weird looking game, though its also one of the best looking games on the Nintendo Switch. The graphics on this are phemonal. The way that the colors change in this game is stunning. One moment Daryl is in a black and white school hallway, the next he’s in a light brown villiage, an almost completely black alternate dimension, and so many other places. Objects take on unique colors in different areas too. Daryl himself is a combination of black and white mixed with some color (that orange!).

The game has a unique style that its very comic book like; Super Daryl Deluxe could easily be a cool indie comic book too (developers: think about it!). Super Daryl Deluxe will have your jaw on the floor. This is such an impressive looking game. I can’t wait to see what Dan and Gary Games brings to the Nintendo Switch next!

Super Daryl Deluxe also has very good music and sound effects. I do wish there was voice acting on this game because I think it would be the perfect fit for that. Otherwise, the sound is just as good as the rest of the game.

Overall, Super Daryl Deluxe is an odd, weird, and really wonderful game.

Super Daryl Deluxe won’t be loved by everyone. Some people will think its just too weird. I think the game is awesome. If you want something unique on your Nintendo Switch, you should definitely┬ácheck out Super Daryl Deluxe. Don’t forget to save in the bathroom man!

Thanks to Stride PR and Dan and Gary Games for providing a review copy of this game. Super Daryl Deluxe is out now on the Nintendo Switch eshop!
