As our homes become increasingly smarter and more automated, devices like the Google Home and Google Nest are finding their ways into more and more homes. Their relative simplicity and broad (and ever expanding) functionality make them a great addition to most homes, even for those who are not the most tech savvy. One of Google’s latest smart-home devices, the Google Nest Mini, aims to appeal to even more homeowners with its new features.

Google Nest Mini 3

For anyone familiar with the Google Home Mini, the Nest Mini will look virtually identical. It sports the same minimalist design which can fit on just about any surface in your home – and now, with the Nest Mini – mounted on your walls. The biggest differences, however, are on the inside.

The Google Nest Mini sports a more powerful speaker, creating a better experience when listening to music through your device, as well as increasing the range it can be heard from (potentially meaning you will require less of them throughout your home for full audio coverage).

It is also equipped with better voice recognition, increasing the range that it will be able to pick up your voice commands and minimizing any mis-recognitions that may occur. For anyone who has experience trying to turn their lights on from two rooms away, this is a welcome improvement.

Google Nest Mini 2

The Google Nest Mini houses these improvements, as well as the full functionality of the Google Home Mini, all while coming in at the same MSRP as its predecessor. This is a very nice touch, as there would easily be an argument to be made on Google’s end that these extra features would bump the cost a bit, but keeping it at the same price will allow for a smooth transition away from the 1st generation Home Mini without creating any disgruntled customers.

All in all, the Google Nest Mini is a nice, if incremental, improvement over the Home Mini and for the same price, there is no reason not to pick it up over a Home Mini.
