Star Wars: Dark Forces is a remaster of a game from the PlayStation 1. Is it worth checking out on the Xbox Series? Here is our review of Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster.

In Star Wars: Dark Forces you play as a commander who is helping the rebel alliance on various missions. The first mission is stealing the Darth Star plans. Forget what you know of Rogue One. This Star Wars game takes place in a completely different storyline. Classic Star Wars characters such as Darth Vader appear in the game. The story is neat, though its definitely the gameplay that makes Dark Forces even more interesting.

Star Wars Dark Forces

first person view

Dark Forces is a first person shooter in the style of Doom and Wolfenstein. You only see your character in cutscenes. Otherwise, you only see the guns in front of you. The enemies in the game are usually stormtroppers or their bosses. The gameplay is pretty simplistic, but there is some exploration in the levels and you can get a little lost. Thankfully there’s a map that can be helpful. There are some extras, including a new playable level, that are worth checking out too.

If you like old school first person shooters than you’ll enjoy this game. The gameplay is definitely retro, though its still a fun game. The graphics have been slightly improved and make the game better.

Star Wars Dark Forces

cutscene

The graphics are improved over the original game and look very nice. It still looks like an older game but the graphics look better than they previously did. The game’s music is still pretty good, while the voice acting has seen better days.

Overall, Star Wars: Dark Forces is a fun game. The gameplay is old school: shot first and ask questions later. The visuals and audio are enhanced but it is, without a doubt, a retro experience. If you like old school first person shooters, then you’ll enjoy this game.

A digital code was provided for this review. Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is available now on the Xbox Series.
