More Thoughts From Me #286: Shovel Knight Returns

Yacht Club Game’s Shovel Knight has been one of the most popular indie game creations since it came out. The platformer and its extended DLC are really fun too. And soon Yacht Club is releasing another game staring the knight. This one is pretty different though. Let’s talk about Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon!

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is coming out next week. December 13th to be exact! This game is totally different from the previous Shovel Knight.

According to the official website for the game, “Delve with Shovel Knight into the depths of the Pocket Dungeon in an action-packed puzzle adventure mashup like none other!

Join your mysterious guide Puzzle Knight as you shovel through scads of foes, procure new equipment, and battle bosses both familiar and new.

Explore a tale with endless twists and turns, quest as your favorite heroes, and even challenge a friend for fast-paced head-to-head competition in Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon!”

Yes, Shovel Knight is staring in an action puzzle game. If you’ve ever played Grindstone or Puzzle Quest, then you’ll have an idea of what the gameplay is like.

There are falling blocks in Pocket Dungeon but also plenty of action with Shovel Knight facing off against enemies and gaining treasure to help him on his quest. It looks like a really fun game.

I’m a huge fan of Grindstone and Might and Magic and other puzzle action/adventure games. I love regular puzzle games too. Shovel Knight and his fellow characters look like they’ll be a perfect fit for a puzzle action/adventure game.

We’ll find out soon! Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon comes out on December 13th. Will you be picking it up?

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. And Shovel Knight Dig is on the way too!
