Netflix Is Officially Streaming Games to TVs in Canada and the UK

There has been a lot of anticipation and buzz surrounding Netflix’s decision to launch games through its streaming service, and it seems we might be a step closer to that becoming even more of a reality in the coming weeks.

According to a recent company announcement, users of the streaming platform in Canada and the UK could soon have access to some of those games if they own one of the few devices that are set to allow playable gaming.

It has already been revealed that users of certain TVs, Macs, and PCs will be able to enjoy the rollout, with those that also use third-party devices like an Amazon Fire Stick also finding that they could be part of the new gaming experience that is set to be launched.

Netflix’s game entry is far from a surprise

It is important to recognize and remember that the initial rollout was made in 2021 when players were able to access Netflix games through their mobile devices.

Netflix’s decision to enter the gaming market does not come as a surprise, though, as the gaming industry has continued to change and thrive. Online streaming platforms like Twitch have become popular with people who wish to watch others play, while social media sites like Facebook have helped to create new gaming experiences.

Of course, smartphones have also become one of the most popular gadgets to use for all forms of entertainment as they continue to offer convenience, accessibility, and portability that other devices are unable to offer. This has helped more niche industries like iGaming to also boom, with those who want to play at new casinos in the UK being provided with the ability to do so with ease.

Now, with technology continuing to play a role, it would seem Netflix is ready to take its offering to a new level.

What can we expect to see from Netflix’s latest rollout?

Canadian and UK users will be able to enjoy two games in this new rollout, with titles “Oxenfree” and “Molehew’s Mining Adventure” both being released. The former of the two is a Netflix-own studio game after they acquired the developer behind it, while the other is a simple arcade game. Both will be playable with a smartphone, as this will be used as the controller.

No additional equipment is required to play the games that are being offered by the streaming platform, thus allowing them to be as accessible as possible. Of course, this could change in the future, but for now, it gives the company the best chance of gauging as much interest as possible. Those that play on a PC or a Mac will be able to use their mouse and keyboard just like they would with traditional games.

Will it be a success?

With the game industry continuing to thrive and developers continually looking for new ways to enhance their offerings, the use of a streaming platform as big as Netflix could do wonders for it, as well as the company itself.

The streaming platform has been suffering badly in terms of the number of subscriptions in recent times, with the organization having clamped down on password sharing to try and curb the decline. The addition of games – which are among the world’s biggest pastimes – can help to keep some interested while also potentially attracting new signups and getting old customers to return.
