PlayStation 5: Japan’s Favorite Console Smashes a New Record

While Sony Interactive Entertainment has had some trouble with setting up its supply chains in 2020 and PlayStation5 is still hard to procure even one year after its release, the console is reaching new heights of its development and production cycle.

In a newly-published announcement, Sony has revealed that PlayStation5 consoles have outsold PlayStation4 already with 10 million units shipped worldwide, including across Japan.

The demand for the console has posed a challenge to the company as disrupted supply lines slowed down progress, but they didn’t slow down the zeal with which PlayStation enthusiasts have been snapping up the console.

Today’s numbers reveal that the tech giant is not only ramping up its production line and pace but also focusing on making sure that everyone who wants to purchase the console can get it without too many challenges.

Jim Ryan, chief executive at SIE, has acknowledged that while PS5 has been quick to reach households around the world, it has not been able to keep up with demand, a pain point for the company that it’s now quickly looking to move past.

“I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges, improving inventory levels remains a top priority,” Ryan said in detailing his and the company’s commitment to ensuring that more units are shipped.

Sony Continues to Innovate the Gaming Experience

blankOne key tenet in Sony has been innovation and the company has been moving quickly to provide a variety of new technologies and gaming features. Sony even patented its own esports platform, a bold move that may signal that Sony is prepared to branch off into numerous other gaming activities.

With Japanese gamers keen to explore new gaming avenues, including the ability to apply for a license as a professional video gamer, an esports betting solution by Sony does sound tantalizing. It’s not only just new patents, though. Sony’s games have been selling incredibly well, as the company has numerous franchise agreements in place allowing it to quickly expand into new gaming opportunities.

Speaking of Sony’s games, the latest console is not the only item in its repertoire that is selling rapidly. In fact, interest in consoles has been soaring and that signals stronger demand for PS5 platforms as well as a greater interest in the newly-released games.

Sony’s PS5 Games, Are They Getting More Popular?

blankThe short answer is – definitely. Sony’s trademark products developed by the namesake PlayStation Studios are some of the most captivating titles you will ever enjoy. From Spider-Man: Miles Morales to MLB: The Show 21, you will find numerous excellent games to enjoy.

The launch of the new platform definitely added a lot of initial momentum to the company’s sales and that is definitely not something to shy away from. Returnal has been able to sell 560,000 copies and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart added in another 1.1 million.

However, Spider-Man: Miles Morales managed to grab all the headlines with 6.5 million copies sold, and then there is MLB: The Show 21 which added another 2 million copies. In a word? The company’s games have been really killing it.

Interest in console gaming at home in Japan has remained unchanged, but even more importantly, people globally have embraced PlayStation5 as one of the best consoles to enjoy and they have a point. The new generation is quicker, slimmer, and neater.

It weighs less but packs more potential, and not least – it comes with arguably a much better design which is precisely what appeals to many customers worldwide. Sony’s products remain a treat and they are getting more popular as we speak.

So, What Drives Engagement for Sony’s Products?

This is a fair question. Sony’s consoles have not been cheap. In fact, they usually come at a rather high cost when compared to competitors’ products and yet the company has been successful in selling its products without any notable difficulties.  To drive the success behind this, Sony has counted on several things.

First, the company has committed to building impeccable products. Other than the PlayStation Portable’s flop, there have been no actual busts in the company’s history. Even the PSP is arguably a great platform but Sony timed its product roll out rather wrongly and interest never picked up.

Regardless, today Sony has a reputation for a company that builds amazing platforms of exceptional quality making them sophisticated and worthwhile products that you would enjoy a ton yourself.
