More Thoughts From Me #223: Where Have All the Good Animal Crossing Holidays Gone?

I love Animal Crossing New Horizons. I think its the best Animal Crossing game yet. You can check out my review of the game here. And yet…the holidays in this game suck so far. Let’s talk about them and what I hope to see in the future.

In Animal Crossing City Folk and New Leaf, Bunny Day was a holiday where you dug up (or in the case of New Leaf: dug up, fished up, shot down, etc) easter eggs and gave them to Zipper T for prizes. It was only a one day holiday.
That all changed with New Horizons. In this game, you get eggs from everywhere again and have to craft furniture in order to get some final reward from Zipper T. The eggs appear way to often, especially while fishing, and the holidays lasts way too long.

Bunny Day in New Horizons was terrible. It wasn’t fun. It made fishing for actual fish almost impossible. And by the time the actual holiday rolled around, I didn’t care about the final prize. I didn’t bother getting it. Nintendo messed this holiday up bad.

And then we got some smaller holidays. Nature Day absolutely sucked. There was nothing to it. Just some Nook miles “challenges”.

MayDay was ok. At least it used the nook miles islands in a unique way and we got to see Rover again. It could’ve been even better though. Why not have a new maze every day or at least randomize the maze so that everyone got a different one?

And International Museum Day(s) is terrible. The first time I did it, I thought the stamp rally was kind of neat. But the prizes you get for it was worthless. And if you want to do the stamp rally again, you get the same prizes! What’s the point of that?! Why not different prizes for each time you do the rally?

The holidays so far has been a mess. And Wedding Season is in June and I don’t expect much from it. Someone I know said that the furniture was pretty good though. We’ll see…

I think New Horizons is a great game. Yes its missing a bunch of stuff (more than just holidays) but I love what is there and the Leif/Redd update was excellent. I can’t help but be disappointed by the holidays though. Most of the holidays were great in New Leaf (expect Harvest Festival). So far, New Horizons has been a disappointment in this area.

So what do I hope to see in future updates?

I’d love to see Nook islands used in more unique ways. I think better prizes for small events would be great too. And why not just make small events one or two days? I don’t think they need to last a week or more.

As for bigger holidays, I hope not every holiday will have to do with crafting. I do love the crafting, don’t get me wrong, but I think a break from that once and awhile wouldn’t hurt. Here’s hoping Halloween will be pretty similar to New Leaf. I want to see masks in Ables.

Sure it’d be nice to have some Halloween decorations for our towns. I think special seasonal recipes would be cool.

But I’m hoping the actual holiday will be about giving candy to Jack again.

Oh and I wish Nintendo would bring back the old Harvest Festival. I know they won’t. We already saw that Franklin has the cook hat on again. ugh.

Most of all, I hope upcoming holidays will be better. And not last as long.

I love New Horizons. The base game is amazing. I want the upcoming updates to be just as amazing as the basic game, if not more so.

I guess time will tell…

What do you think about the holidays in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

Next week: I take a look back at the first Donkey Kong Country and share a memory of the game. Why? Because I’m really wishing this game (and the other two) were on the Switch’s online SNES app!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. I still think New Horizons is the best Animal Crossing Ever.
