GTA Online Launched

GTA-roads_690x363

You’ve played all the tennis, pulled off all the heists, even checked out some of the Easter eggs… now it’s time to take your Grand Theft Auto experience global, with the launch of Grand Theft Auto Online.

As of publication the 360 version of GTA Online is available for play, and will update as soon as you load the game. PlayStation posted to Facebook this morning saying their version of the 60MB patch will be live by 11AM GMT, although it hasn’t happened just yet.

This means there are thousands of people loading GTA V and closing it again over and over again. Apparently Sony are slowly rolling out the patch, although no confirmation of anyone getting it just yet (probably because they’re busy playing GTA Online).

Early reports say that the Xbox 360 version is working pretty flawlessly. Apparently taking the fortnight to polish and prepare made a big difference, and people aren’t struggling to get in at all. That’ll make this a one-of-a-kind launch if true. The real test will be how it survives the next few days.

GTA Online is a semi-MMO experience that brings together dozens of players in a living, breathing San Andreas. There’s been nothing like it attempted on consoles before, but if anybody can pull it off, it’s likely to be Rockstar.

EDIT

People are now having problems getting into the game. If you’re already in, you should be able to play with little issue. If you’re not, add a little time into loading and installing. PlayStation 3 owners still don’t have their patch.

EDIT 2

The PS3 patch is now live, available to download at a little under 40MBs
