Collecting Playmobil is a Thing – Volkswagen Limited Edition Sets

I have had a ton of people tell me that collecting and displaying Playmobil sets isn’t a thing, as it doesn’t have the same display quality of other building toys. And for the longest time, I might have believed them. That is until my friends at Playmobil sent over two collectible Volkswagen sets – the Special Edition Volkswagen Beetle and the Special Edition Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus. Both sets are phenomenal pieces, and while kids might enjoy playing them, they are in my opinion a great, collectible piece.

Both sets come with nifty limited numbered license plates so you know exactly which specific vehicle you have in the grand scheme of the limited numbered release. How do I know these are limited and collectible? Because Playmobil actually makes a nearly identical version of both sets that are not limited, and are great for playing with. In reality, while a collectible item for me, my kids are salavating around my desk every day, waiting for me to leave so they can pull it down to play with it. At the end of the day, these sets are both great for playing!

Both sets come with figures that will allow multiple people to play with one single set, and on top of additional figures, each set comes with an abundance of items to interact with, including luggage, food items, roof racks, surf boards, and more. There is no shortage of play options and opportunities, and as long as multiple people can share a single vehicle – if purchasing only one of the two products – this is the perfect multi-person playset for under the tree this holiday season.

On it’s own, it accurately resembles that 70s look, but mixing it into your Playmobil City sets is an easy thing to do, and they don’t look out of place either. While collectible, under careful supervision I’ve allowed my kids to take the toys for a spin and mix them into their other city and farm playsets, and they fit perfectly. One of my kids recreated a visit to a family farm, setting up all his farm tractors, animals, etc. and then having the Volkswagen T1 Camper Bus family come to the farm to stay for a few days. It was great to see his imagination work that way, and equally fantastic to see how well that idea played out for him. The surf boards didn’t really fit, though…

Still, if you’ve exhausted the Playmobil City and Farm sets and want something that could compliment those themes, both vehicles from this Volkswagen collection would be an outstanding fit!
