More Thoughts From Me #184: Another Look At the Dragon Quest 11 S Demo

I’ve been playing the Dragon Quest 11 S demo for Nintendo Switch a lot lately. Check out my first impressions of the demo here. But the DQ demo is so long, ten hours long, that I have more thoughts on it! What do I think of Dragon Quest 11 S for the Nintendo Switch so far? I have eight hours on the Dragon Quest 1 S demo now. I am not looking forward to the demo being over.

Yes, I’ve played Dragon Quest 11 before but the Nintendo Switch verison has me hooked on this game all over again. And there is so much new stuff, already, to love. The menus are readable, the music is even better than the PS4 verison (though I loved the music there too) and the game just feels great in portable mode.

After playing it for awhile though, I am pretty sure that the graphics are not as good as the PS4 verison. I’ve heard some people say they are a bit blurry compared to the PS4 game and I think thats right. Still, the game looks so much better than I would have ever thought it would on the Switch. And the gameplay is as addictive as it was before.

That said, I have had the demo crash on me two times now. So yeah, the reports of the demo crashing are true. The first time I was caught unaware and lost a tiny bit of progress. The second time, I was actually at a save point and the game crashed. Thankfully I had just got done saving.

Hopefully the crashing won’t be a problem in the full game or if it is, it will be fixed quickly.

Oh and I know I complained about this in my first impressions of the game, but I really wish the demo had included 2D mode. Sure getting a 10-hour demo for 3D mode is great, especially if you haven’t played the game before. However, the 2D mode is exclusive to the Switch. I guess I can understand wanting to leave it for the full game, though I do think at least a little demo of the 2D would’ve been nice.

I am looking forward to playing the full game a lot. I want to play both modes, though I will focus on the 2D mode a lot. I think its amazing that Square Enix is going to be giving us two verisons of this game for the price of one game! Dragon Quest S: Definitive Edition will be well worth getting, even if you played the PS4 verison. I still have the PS4 game. I don’t plan on getting rid of it. Is it September yet??
