More Thoughts From Me #180: Make Mine Marvel (Games)

I’ve always been a Marvel comics fan. Spider-man is my all-time favorite superhero. But I also like Daredevil, Silver Surfer, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, etc. The Marvel movies are great and I think that Marvel has some excellent video games too. So today, I want to talk about what my favorite Marvel games are past and present. I’ll also look into the future! What do I hope we’ll see next?

I’m currently playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and its a really good game. I love how many characters there are, the different places you visit, and the cutscenes are just fantastic. And the Fantastic Four are not even in the game yet! …Ok sorry about that one. (no I’m not)

But Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 isn’t the first good Marvel game. Its not even the best Marvel game.

I would say that right now the all-time best Marvel game is Spider-man for the Playstation 4. That game is just jaw-dropping. The story, the cutscenes, the action, the voice acting, the music, everything! Insomanic Games created a heck of a game.

Looking deeper into the Marvel Games library though we have classics like Spider-man: Maxium Carnage, Spider-man 2 for the PS2, Lego Marvel 1 and 2, Spider-man Shattered Dimensions and even the other Marvel Ultimate Alliance  games were fun.

In the future, Square Enix is going to bring us an Avengers video game. I’ve heard mixed reactions to it from the press but hopefully it’s going to turn out great. And you just know that the Lego franchise will eventually do something else with the Marvel characters, either Lego Marvel 3 or personally I’d love to see a Lego Spider-man game!

As good as the Marvel games are though, I still think there are some missing games that we still need. Remember that Guardians of the Galaxy game I pitched long ago (probably not because it was on my old blog)?  Sure there has been a Guardians game but its not exactly what I was hoping for. There is so many amazing things that could be done with a Mass Effect-like Guardians game.

I also like Captain America, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and even Ant-man could star in solo games. Heck, Thor and his norse mythology could be a mind blowing game especially if you got someone like Jason Aaron to write the story. Get Walter Simonson to do some concept artwork!

The Marvel universe is so very big. We’ve seen tons of Marvel movies. We need more Marvel video games. Spider-man is my favorite Marvel character but I want to see more video games that don’t star him too.

As long as they get comic book writers and artists to help out with these video games, I think you could really have some fantastic video games. You need star game developers too of course.

I bet Naughty Dog would be the perfect developer for the Captain America or Black Panther games. Someone like Warren Spector and his group could handle Ant-man. And Bioware is the no brainer developer for Guardians of the Galaxy!

Spider-man PS4 proved that Marvel games could be taken to the next level-with awesome gameplay and a movie-like story!

I want more spectular Marvel games. C’mon Marvel and Disney! The money is there. The gamers are waiting.

What are your favorite Marvel video games? What future Marvel games would you love to see?

Next week: I didn’t buy the new Fire Emblem for Switch. I’m a fan of the Fire Emblem games, but I’m just not sure about this new game. I’ll tell you whats making me hesitate next week!

More Thoughts From Me is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed here are mine and mine alone. Now I gotta get back to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3!
