New Detective Pikachu Toys from Wicked Cool Toys

Pokemon Detective Pikachu has been a big box office hit already, and like any good cinematic experience, the spin-off revenue has the potential of going through the roof. It’s much easier with this Pokemon movie because of all the Pokemon merchandise that already exists. Now all that needs to be done is adding the Detective Pikachu elements, and sending them to retail!

Thanks to our friends at Wicked Cool Toys, we had the opportunity to look at some of the plush toys that launched at retail alongside the movie. We received a talking Psyduck, talking Ludicolo, pose-able Mr. Mime, and of course a large, talking Detective Pikachu.

What has always been great with the Pokemon toys from Wicked Cool Toys, is the quality. With other plush toys that I have owned, the out-of-factory quality wasn’t always what you want. I’ve brought home plush toys with loose strings, discoloration, and worse. The toys from Wicked Cool are always top notch, with perfect stitching along seams, and fantastic audio when available, such as in the Pysduck.

Psyduck and Ludicolo will only say variations of their names when tossed about or when they bump into something. From the tag on the plush, I assumed I would have to shake the Pokemon to make the suond come out – kind of like the Power Action Pikachu we reviewed a few months back. It took an accident – dropping it from my hands to the floor – for us to realize that the sounds were activated when the Pokemon was ‘bopped’ (or dropped) with a bit of force. It was a weird way to make the toy talk, but it worked!

I really like the range of Detective Pikachu toys that Wicked Cool is putting into the marketplace. They have the 8 inch talking plush, the talking Pikachu, and even a pose able Mr. Mime. The lank long arms and legs of Mr. Mime makes him perfect for kids looking to recreate scenes from the movie. Being able to place the legs and arms in specific ways adds to the range of play options kids can have.

But all of these figures are playing second fiddle to the Ryan Reynolds voiced Detective Pikachu plush, with loads of different lines from the film, and a hugable exterior; despite having the battery box and sound box inside the toy, there is enough filling to ensure kids won’t feel the lumps. So often this aspect is overlooked int talking toys, so to see if a priority here is fantastic!
